I must have given Tut the details in the past - if not I'm impressed with the Porker Geekery. The only difference is the missing turbo and the badge. Suspension, brakes, bodywork, interior were all turbo spec.
I'm not one to get too sentimental about cars (this might be the exception though), it's all to easy to fall into the too good to drive trap. This one has a bit of history, so for those interested...........it was the original import of this model, registered by Porsche UK as A911 and used as a press car. Featured in an Autocar article (July - I think) 1987, the car came with a copy of the autocar mag although I've changed the reg after. I also have the initial invoice, which was a staggering £53k -in 1987 for goodness sake!
I bought it because it matched the one I had on a poster when I was at uni - I've always promised myself one since then. I've probably had it 5 or 6 years, during which it's had the interior fully redone, the exterior fully redone, new suspension and brakes, new fuel tank, and finally a full engine and gearbox rebuild at Ninemeister Warrington. It's not so bad when you do a bit every year. The engine was rebuilt totally standard, but Ninemeister are about the best. Everything gets cleaned measured, then reground rebalanced or replaced as required. The rebuild took 2 months, but the result is incredible. It makes more power than it would have had at new spec, averaged 27mpg over 850miles a couple of weekends ago and once you hit 3000rpm things really happen. The extra width gives a lot of grip, you need to keep the fuel tank half full (in the front) to get reasonable steering response, and the brakes are easy to lock, but it's good fun and a little bit of a challenge.
Anyway - did no-one spot the nice hill in the background and the sympathetic lines of the mountain following those of the 911.
