June/July European Trip in Evora

Post by douglasgdmw » Fri Jul 29, 2011 9:10 am

Thousands of pictures from the Mercedes musuem, Porsche museum, Zeppelin museum and the Moto GP race in Mugello, however here are a couple of my favourite Evora pics (with a slight digress):

Mielenwerk in Stuttgart. Kind of car storage facility that allows the general public to come in and admire the cars owners have in storage (owners can come in and pick them up anytime). This one has a Ferrari, Lambo, Maserati and Lotus service centre:

Image

Solitude Ring outside Stuttgart (fantastic little circuit if you ever get the chance), like a very mini TT course but with the speed limits unfortunately:

Image

After our trip to see the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang castle in Germany:

Image

Way down to Bormio (Italy) where we stayed for the Stelvio runs:

Image

Stopped for directions to try and locate a recommended restaurant run by Monks

Image

Could not find it but bumped into some enthusiast who let us admire their cars and sit in them:

Image

Half way down the Stelvio we stopped for a piccie:

Image

First in queue for tunnel :thumbsup so windows down, full chat and you get the effect (unfortunate that the cabin was blurred but that's the acceleration of an Evora for you :) ):

Image

Visited the Mille Miglia museum and perfect opportunity for pics:

The car was fantastic and it was the perfect weapon for the trip. For all the driving I did (around 2,200 miles) not tired until after we got home. The only time I wish I had the Elise was when we were on the smaller narrow italian roads with no passing places.

On the Autobahn the car was brilliant, you could really feel the car haunch down when the speed went up (around 120ish if I remember). Slightly dissapointed that I did not hit my top speed target but managed a true 148 on the Sat Nav. It was more down to the traffic than the car to be honest - with me erring on the side of caution when approaching other vehicles.

Also got a lot more confidence in the car now, especially after all the mountain passes we did.

I was so surprised about how many looks the car got. Everywhere we went there we people around it. The Italians loved it, Moto GP parking attendant would not let me go to the parking spot until I gave it loads of revs so he could hear the exhaust :thumbsup

Only issue we had was on way back home when petrol lid would not close. Eventually found out that it was due to a couple of springs coming undone and getting caught under the petrol lid attachment. Not exactly a major issue but 10 mins of slight concern with potential purchase of gaffer tape.

Cheers

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang jumps out for me...iconic. Also like the Solitude ring one, Evora looks great from that angle.

Brilliant set.

We drove all the way across Switzerland and Liechtenstein (I think) to see that fecking castle, took a pic, too late to go inside, and drove all the way back. In an Opel Corsa  Ah well, love's young dream!!

When we went late June it was totally crammed and had to wait a good couple of hours for the organised inside tour. Hate to see what it is like during the peak holiday times !!

Ps Forgot to add that for all the austerity of the castle he only lived in it for a total of 172 days. Here;s the wiki site for the inside views http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuschwanstein

Definitely had a blast.

Also discovered geographic petrol anomalies:
Germany Shell: Unleaded, V-Power (98.5) and V-Power Racing (100)
Switzerland Shell : Unleaded & V-Power (100).

Never known the Swiss as a nation wanting super duper octane petrol to make their cars go extra fast
