NLC - Pembleton Grasshopper SS 3-wheeler

Post by jason » Tue Mar 06, 2012 10:59 pm

A friend of mine, Tom, built a Pembleton Grasshopper SS 3-wheeler a couple years ago. It's a kit based on, of all things, a 2CV donor, using the Citroën's suspension, engine and gearbox. But that didn't stop it being a very lovely thing, with some great details. This winter he installed a Moto Guzzi 650 V-twin which is the icing on the cake 8)

Not fast, FWD (which is arguably way more useable than Morgan's new offering), and very busy to drive with a sense of rear wheel steer over crowns, bumps, grit, etc. But what a hoot to be in and the skinny tyres make the fun all legal :)

Anyway, the car evokes memories of wartime movies so couldn't resist the 633 Squadron music

Just saw this and love these things something very WW2 fighter pilot about them. Many of you know Alan Dickie who was looking into Pembletons but ended up going for a Buckland. Those of you who read PPC will remember seeing one on the front page a couple issues back. Cant wait to get a run in it although if his 340r build progress is anything to go by it may just reside in his house for the next ten years.

A friend of mine used to build 2CV based Lomax cars and lent me one with a view to sale back in 88?
The phrase "Fast at Forty" was an apt description for this car......... but a joy to pedal along knowing it cost buttons to buy and run
(£3300 bought a fully kitted out car with new engine/box)

I seem to remember the car was a f*nny magnet........ especially when the driver was clad in belstaff, leather flying helmet and "eighties" flamboyant moustache
