TT12 - Caterham & 2 x 211's

Post by Gourlay83 » Sat Jun 30, 2012 6:37 pm

Video from Tut Towers, very very wet ! but a great day. Expected Caterham to be terrible in the wet with 888's and pointy set-up but to everyones surprise (especially me) the car was awesome.

Video has me with Scotty's 211 then Ali's 211.

Cheers Alan

P.S Worth noting that the Caterham has no driver aids.... and the driver only has one arm that works and a broken hip. Enjoy :D

That’s really impressive Alan :thumbsup . You really got those tyres working well :D . Were they new 888s? Don’t know how reverse lap times compare but if that was the other way round you’d be 3 or 4 secs quicker than any wet lap I’ve done :? . The rebuild and setup must be spot on. Looking forward to my first reverse session on Wednesday.

New 888's and really impressed. The set-up is spot on for circuits and road but need more camber for the sprints. Just back from Boyndie and the car had little grip on the high load/low speed cornering, so believe more camber is needed for sprints/hill climbs but overall happy with the set-up (still 2 class wins :D )

Congrats on the class wins :thumbsup . Played your vid on a big screen and you really can appreciate how well balanced it was. I struggle to keep balance in the wet, which I’ve put down to the fronts never warming up but I think it’s really that I just don’t have the courage to push hard enough. Fresh rubber does make a big difference – seems to warm up better in the wet. Interesting comment about camber; as per FB post I think you were conservative on camber and I find 2 degrees works well for KH in the dry, but it depends on what you like.

You and the car were going well. Really enjoyed out stints together, the one with clarkie, Ali , you and I was a good laugh.

Just a shame we never got a few dry laps

I admire your approach to that Alan, holding back a wee bit and not going flat out,... although I think you could have gone a bit quicker :thumbsup

I was lifting on the railway striaght (or long right hander) to miss breaking in the river, and breaking early on the main straight. I don't know what speed I was hitting as i couldn't read the speedo for the rain, must be around the 110 mph mark.

I don't think anyone was flat out :D
