My Boyndie pics!

Post by jen » Mon Jul 02, 2012 2:26 pm

So on the Saturday I used our 400D with the regular 18-55mm lens. Thought I got some pretty good shots although on my panning ones just a tiny bit is out of focus. I just need a longer lens and stand further away. Here are the shots from Saturday. I also used a polariser filter all day to help with the brightness of the frog! Worked pretty well I think!

On the Sunday I borrowed Mikes 4 thirds Panasonic G1 as I'm thinking of buying a G3. A cracking little camera, he has a zoom lens with it too. The frog's colour causes havoc with this cameras lens too, so the colour isn't great, but I thought the images were pretty sharp:

The next two were taken by fluke. I was sitting in the mini trying to heat back up, and playing with the different settings on the camera. I went to take a picture of the car through the glass and as I pressed the shutter it refocused on the raindrops on the window. If you look closely you can see the frog upside down in every single droplet! I thought that was quite cool!

Great pics Jen,.. especially the Toxic Frog, although I guess it would be easier to shoot as it would be one of the slower cars

Well done Jen, I particularly like the panning shot of the Midget, very close to perfect, colours good and nice composition. I also like the 4th one below the raindrops of the frog.

I am assuming both cameras were shooting JPEG rather than raw? Bear in mind that there will be differing levels of in camera sharpening. I also think that you will notice a massive improvement in sharpness when you ditch the 18-55. Anyway looks good and hope you both enjoyed the weekend.

Thanks!

The Canon is jpeg and the G1 gave me raw and jpeg files......

I liked having the polarising filter on the canon. It seemed to separate the colours better, if that makes sense?!

It will do that, is it a linear or a circular polarising filter? Did you notice the strength of the effect varying depending on your angle between the subject and the sun etc?

 I didnt realise it is a circular one until Graeme showed me on Sat night when I was showing him the pics! It was my first time using the filter so didnt really know what I was doing with it to be honest! I'm going to take it out during the holidays and experiment. :thumbsup

Ha ha it took me a wee while to realise you need to tune the filter and it only works well at 90degrees to the sun or reflected light
