Scottish Elises

Picked up this beast the other day, I have to say, i am in love with it, it has to be up there with the best looking bikes around!

Unfortunately, my bike test was rained off the other day so I can't actually ride it yet!

They are gorgeous looking bikes. Huge Ducati nut and had quite a few of the range over time. Fond memories of my 916.

Nice, must admit I have had my 748 since new in 2002 and will never get rid of it.


You do know you have gone for the slower colour

I would also recommend ERS racing for the servicing as Eddie is a top bloke and a complete Ducati nut.

They have a couple of foibles, worst one I have is a connector coming loose in the fairing which means the bike won't start but most people tie wrap it up. Does not resolve the issue and I sometimes have to put my hand in the vent in the fairing to click it together. However it certainly does not detract from the bike and love its little Italian temperament

Nice to see you habve the termi's, looking at the wheels it looks like an E with couple of amendments, fastener addition is a nice touch and not a cheap conversion.

Would definitely recommend getting an open clutch cover (my pic from WDW2004 does not show it) but it sounds so much better.

Its a 1998 Biposto, with the single seat currently on it (i got it with both) the termi's were a factory extra and it has since has the Eprom chip also, it sounds AWESOME!

the wheels were painted at some stage in silver for some reason, but i will be putting them back to the original gold/bronze colour to match the frame etc.

LOL, i was actually looking at a yellow '748R' but, when i started telling my boss about it he told be he had a the Bip gathering dust in his garage in full race trim and he had all of the road trim also gathering dust, so i went up for a look at it and fell in love (partially because it was in full race trim and slicks!) he offered it at an excellent price and i decided to go for it!

a question on the open clutch cover.... can this not get rubbish in it and cause damage?

aye mike, i will come over and let you see it when i get the text out of the way, its i pretty good nick, probably because it has been in race trim for a fair while, the engine was fully rebuilt by Ducati at 10k and its only done 2k since, i have every receipt etc from new also, so there is a chunk of history with the beast

I have had an open clutch cover on mine for around 5 years now and not had an issue (although I have been known to do as little as 50 miles a year sometimes )

I suppose you could get some rubbish in but very very unlikey. Did it for the sound and to let the clutch breath a bit due to my lack of miles. I have got the standard Ducati Performance part which is a little less open than some aftermarket open covers.

Clark, if it's in race trim with a open clutch cover likelihood is it also has a slipper clutch fitted, you can tell by the sound as the slipper as ball bearings that rattle around inside that make a very distinctive noise. If it has then that is a really nice to have addition, stops rear wheel lock up on down shift. Sounds like you bought a cracker, give you a call one evening and may pop over, although that may prove to be a bad move on my part as I love Duke's and have been fighting the urge to get another one for some time now. Resistance is futile

Unlike cars, i actually know Beggar all about bikes! lol

but it does make a brilliant clattering noise from the clutch, fire over to see it tomorrow night if you want,

im not in tonight, but will be tomorrow.

cannot wait to get out on it and start learning how to ride it properly
