Brno on a motorbike

Post by mckeann » Sun Aug 04, 2013 1:34 pm

Some photos and video from a recent motorbike trip to Brno in Czech Republic with Simon Ironside

Simon wrote some funky program to overlay data onto the video, its just a first draft, we need to sort the gear position as its calculated based on revs, but as the bike leans over the revs rise which mucks it up a bit. We'll fix it for next time.

 Brno fastest lap

As for the trip, it was brilliant.  Of all the trips i have planned this year, Brno was the one i was most excited about.  Its a track i'd watched on Moto GP for years and it looked fantastic, so when it popped up on No Limits website there was no hanging around.  It definitely lived up to my expectations, its such a flowing track and the gradients you see on the TV and onboards are nowhere near what its like in real life.

The next 3 are stills taken from my go pro footage.  Unfortunately my hard drive died during the trip so i lost all my day 2 footage, but thankfully i had gotten these screengrabs beforehand. When overtakes go wrong

To explain quickly, i had caught the guy in the chicane at turn 3/4, i lined him up for an overtake down the hill into turn 5, moved to the inside, but as the bmw S1000RR is a good chunk faster than the blade, he had pulled a good gap on the straight.  I decided the outbrake wasnt on, so moved back on line to follow him, just as he broke nearly 100m too early.  My trajectory was taking me to his left hand side, i was hard on the brakes, so couldnt change my mind and go to the inside, so i went left, and then he started to move left on the entry and it got a bit tight.  I managed to run onto the kerb in avoidance and scrub off enough speed to make the corner.  Really caught me unawares, i saw the guy on track a few times after that and he was always braking very hard and early, even come day 3, which isnt the norm in the fast group, but heh, my fault, need to give people a wider berth in future and leave myself more escape room

I'm afraid there were too many lovely ladies to be ogled in the main square that we didn't venture any further. Maybe next year :D
