New car NLC
New car NLC
It has been a while since I had a car worth mentioning on here! Picked up this SLK55 from Aberdeen a week ago now.
Have always had a soft spot for the SLK55 and it seemed the perfect choice for a road trip through the alps for a friends July wedding in Italy.
Impressions so far -
The noise is epic, seriously addictive however it could do with a bit more volume
It's quick, loads of torque which throws you back into the seat after dropping a cog or two.
Brakes are mega, a lot better than anything over had experience of before.
Bad points -
It's thirsty, but who cares.
the roof creaks quite a bit but I will probably be able to sort that with some silicone grease.

Look lovely, just pity you could not include a sound clip of the engine note.

Looks lovely Phil, polished black on a Merc is a great colour.
Excuse my ignorance, but is the SLK a fixed roof?

Electronic retracting roof, you can just see the joins where it splits.tut wrote:Looks lovely Phil, polished black on a Merc is a great colour.

Then he should be ostrazied for not showing a pic of it with the roof down, and a video of it retracting.

I used to have the SLK350 R171. Really liked it and always fancied trading up to the V8. The roof is fantastic. Mine didn't squeak at all so your probably right about it just needing a lube with some silicon spray.
I did have problems with the little back windows leaking, that was solved by the dealer plugging it in to their computer and adjusting the movements.
Lovely car, enjoy!

Re: New car NLC
Just remembered I've got a pair of AMG illuminated sill covers that I never fitted. They're official Mercedes parts and unused. Got the fitting instructions too, looks pretty straight forward.
Going to put them in EBay, let me know if they're of any interest.
Cheers

Was awaiting the Nicky Clarke comments
Cheers all, I'm planning on doing an X pipe mod to the exhaust which means it should sound like this - Will pass on the sill covers but cheers, I quite like the stainless steel ones!

Re: New car NLC
Was considering one of these amongst others last year when I was car hunting, saw one on PH that had been retro-fitted with the SL55 set up...basically + supercharger?I dithered and understandably it sold
From memory I think there was changes made to the brakes but can't remember if it was from 6 pot calliper to 4 pot or the other way round, with suitable discs also.......remember from research that they could throw up big bills when brakes needed attention. It may have been an option in fact....F1 seems to ring a bell ?!?!
Never driven one but like all V8 AMG's....sound nice when encouraged!!......desirable motor

Re: New car NLC
Yes Gareth Ive noticed the C63 sounds a lot nicer out of the box.
Ive heard loads of people mentioning the brakes as being expensive to replace but I found Pagid discs for £120 a pair opposed to the dealership £1200, fair enough they arent 2 piece but do the same job. Pads are similarly cheap at £80 for pair good quality.
They fitted both 4 pot and 6 pots on SLK55s with no reasoning, its just your luck if you have the 6 pots. Only way to guarantee having them was to have the competition pack fitted
