Re: S1 Elise Motorsport replica project
yeah, I've also invested in a fan heater as well as my plant pot heater, and it's better, but it's a fairly big garage, and takes a while to get rid of the chill.

Re: S1 Elise Motorsport replica project
floating bells arrived today, so discs built up and trial fitted to rear to measure shims needed for handbrake caliper brackets:
tight fit for front caliper fitted to rear with spacers, (discs are 308mm AP), so will reverse studs and have nuts at the back of the floating bells, to give just a little more clearance. I'll add another washer too, to move the caliper out a bit more too.

I'll ask my engine builder for some when he fits it...I'm not doing it! - I'll post them if he sends me some. He has promised me some of the engine build too. There is a You Tube video of two US guys fitting a lsd to an 02M gearbox.

Excellent, just curious as to how straightforward it is or not.stratosboy wrote:I'll ask my engine builder for some when he fits it...I'm not doing it! - I'll post them if he sends me some. I'm fairly competent to build this project, but after researching the lsd swap, I accept my limitations, and I'm 'coglexic' when it comes to gearbox internals! - a pillar drill is needed to drill out all the existing studs in the diff outer ring gear. diff. bearings and seals need replacing. Over to my engine builder in a couple of weeks.

Re: S1 Elise Motorsport replica project
I didn't like the feel of a car with an LSD. I am not sure of the settings Mike Stout was running but on power off turn in I felt that the car didn't want to rotate and struggled to turn in.
My car had stock diff and it would rotate and turn in better. We were running very similar suspension settings.
I don't claim to know much about LSD's, but I do recall chatting about how they behave when off load and how they effect the rotation of the car. It might be worth discussing this with an LSD specialist before deciding on the final spec for your LSD.
Last time I looked into this properly was 2008 so it is getting a little foggy.....

cheers Victor, appreciate you sharing your experience, I will check it out. It just seems a 'no-brainer' to fit one due to the power the engine will put out. Everyone I've spoken to say it needs one.

Re: S1 Elise Motorsport replica project
Absolutely will. They can be set up to have different amounts of lock/drag (not sure the correct term) when off power. For a light car I think it needs to be minimal.

Re: S1 Elise Motorsport replica project
so todays jobs:
cutting out number plate recess to let more hot air out! I will mesh behind to add a bit more strength back in.
and then fitting new Longerons:
and then the rear clam quick release kit on top of the longerons:
sharp edges on these longerons, hands cut to shreds at the end of the day...I kept thinking where's all this blood coming from!!
good day today.

Re: S1 Elise Motorsport replica project
Looking great, not sure if you are putting in a floor or not, I had some NIMBUS heat shielding in place of a standard boot floor when Vicky was a race car. Gave some separation between the exhaust and the air intake. But she was used as a Sprint car, so a lot of waiting in line till it was your time to go and also at relatively low speeds. I would imagine for track days and road use it would be less of an issue, constant air flow for cooling etc...
We also wrapped the inner tie rod bracket with NIMBUS to try to stop the lubrication drying out on the ball joint from the exhaust heat...
