Back in a lotus again, can’t seem to stay away very long.
Drove down south and back yesterday to collect (767miles
)
It is quite a well known car, being the first Auto Technix/Bernard Scouse conversion.
Apparently it’s quite quick but wouldn’t know yet because it won’t start, currently trying to figure out the problem but it’s more than likely sensor related. Most expensive broken car I’ve ever bought
Hoping to have it properly sorted by the time the decent weather comes back round.

I nearly ran out of fuel on the way back up the road. Eventually got some at the 5th station I tried

Thanks, will be taking my time with this. Plan will be to Elige kit it whenever I get the garage built.
Spent some time getting to know how the conversion is running and already found some issues, the emerald had a connection which was shorting out. It’s in need of some serious TLC
My mechanic has been helping out

So small update so far. I’ve managed to get it running, albeit without boost.
It’s been over-fuelling massively and still not 100% sure why. I’ve replaced the fuel pressure regulator as it was looking in a sorry state. Checked and cleaned all injectors which appear to be fine, the spark plugs were badly carbon fouled so they have been changed out.
It’s only running throttle position sensor and MAP as far as I can tell, no lambda for AFR which I thought it would be.
As far as I can tell it has been using the Audi N75 solenoid valve to control boost when originally mapped however previous owner fitted a manual boost controller for some reason, I’ve reinstated the ecu controlled method but no boost, possible faulty solenoid yet to be determined.
Hard to find any decent info regarding this conversion for reference. Hoping someone on here can help
The intake and most vacuum lines were badly perished, all have been replaced.
Took it for a quick run and annoyingly the gearstick and or steering wheel is hard against my left knee, don’t remember this being an issue in any previous lotus I’ve owned. If I can’t sort this it out it’s going to be a decider whether I keep the car or not. It has an OMP wheel and snap off boss which may be part of the problem.

I had to space the steering wheel out a bit on a boss/spacer to clear my knee. Maybe it’s just too short a boss on the omp?

I wish I could be more encouraging, but apart from a few hours immediately after Craig Wallace and I got the Audi engine running in the car, mine never ran right. I think the issue was the Emerald in some way, but I could never put my finger on exactly what was wrong. It felt like it was only ever running on 2 cylinders even though the coil-on-pack 4 cyl mode was apparently configured in the ECU settings. good luck!
