I really do think the two albums are in the same league. DSOTM has had a long time to engrave itself into our consciousness as a classic, but I think American Idiot could also gain a similar status in the years to come.

Other relatively recent examples I suppose are Definately Maybe & What's the story...I think Oasis's attitude (read:Liams) have done them no favours though.
Interesting view point and obviously you are entitled to your opinion but as you say time will tell - oh and record sales I guess. When Green Day have more Ferraris than they can shake a stick at I will conceed you are indeed correct :thumbsup
Apparently the figures are pretty good.

I can't remember the name of the song, but it was a very famous Greenday number several years ago - and I thought what a lot of noisy thrashy bollox. I decided at that point I did in fact hate Greenday and that american rocky / indie(ish) sound.

I went through a musical disovery process in the following years. Off the sh1t list came The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Bowie, Aerosmith, Metallica, Oasis, Travis, Queen, Pulp etc & onto the sh1t list went QFX, Scott Brown, Scooter, Dimension, Insert dodgy hardcore bollocks here...

I was a prat back then :D

Haha

I can drink for Scotland, I just shouldn't !!! I do have a p1ssup every few months, which normally results in me doing the Adolf Act to anyone who will listen. In a nutshell, i'm a complete knob when wrecked. I am fine with a few, but find it hard to stop when started so just don't start most days!

With regards to the Misplaced childhood, you got it in one :)

Ach....he's not bad. Pretty famous I heard. Think he once had a hit with a song about a big apple or something. He did it his way, but singing about fruit is just wrong.
