On the subject of cameras....does anyone know what those cameras on the English part of the A68 (Jed to Newcastle) are?
I noticed them on my way to and from Croft at the start of June, and hadn't seen them before on trips to Croft.
They looked like small CCTV cameras. It wasn't until I had gone past a few of them that I had a horrible feeling they might be average speed cameras....but nothing through the post so guess not.....

Kind of, but not really private companies, the "Safety Camera Partnerships" are effectively public bodies who were financed via the fines, however this has recently changed and are now financed from central government to "improve road safety" and the money from the fines goes to central government, hence the reason why you may have recently noticed that there are lots of flashing speed limit signs everywhere, they cost less than cameras, and if you have to give the money away, why bother spending money on collecting it. Englandshire, Wales and Scotland are all the same in the way that this is financed.
I think the pic above can only mean that they are getting cars as they speed up after the fixed camera, or the fixed cameras are not real, just dummy boxes.
Have fun

Heard a few days ago on the news that there is going to be a change in the law that means Gatsos no longer have to be dayglowed, but can revert to grey again.
Anybody else see it?

Probably more likely that they know people slow down for the camera so have the van pointed as far up the road as possible and get people before they slow down.
Also, are they actually speed cameras? Do Truvelo ones not need road markings to prove the speed or are they different from Gatsos?

Simon
They are Turevelos, read all about them here.

Tut, The CC of South Yorkshire who is the head of road Policing for ACPO has been on about hidden cameras etc., nothing fixed yet and hopefully nothing will come of it, but who knows.
Good news is that someone has given the Gatso on the A1 heading West at the Tranent junction a Soweto Necklace, it's currently got an interesting cover on it, with "Out of Service", some people are so irresponsible.
