S1 Tyres
S1 Tyres
I've just been on the phone to michelin/bfgoodrich about tyres for the S1. Goodrich never imported the g Force Profilers themselves, they were imported by a company called Southam Tyres. I've contacted them, and they tell me the rears (225/45/16) were discontinued, and are not available anywhere. This means that the BFGs are no longer an option for the S1 which is a shame as i quite like them.
This means that the tyres left are now:
Normal Road Tyres:
Toyo T1R
Advan Neova (whenever lotus can get them)
Sticky Tyres:
Toyo 888
Or a few others of the Advan range
The T1R is the only cheap tyre available, so I reckon we need to find some more budget tyres for those of us who are pikees/don't want to pay silly money for tyres (ie £250 a set rather than £500)
Anyone know of anything else that's available in the correct sizes, in the same tread pattern that we could try?? If we found a spare set of wheels, we could fit the test tyres and try them out at KH and at least see how they fair when they're being beasted. I don't know if i'd want to put a set of relatively unknown tyres on my car for everyday use.....

The stunners were cr@p but thats because i had 48s on the front. Im sure they would be better if they were all round. Tut has them iirc and he likes them!

spoken to a couple of suppliers, and it seems that stunners are generally not stocked on the whole. They seem to be something that appears for a while on the cheap, and then disappear again. It'd be nice to have something that's fairly readily available.
Anyone know anything about Falken Tyres?? The ZE512 tyres are available in S1 sizes. First price I found online was £199.10 for a set delivered. Could be worth a try....

I've used falkens before and they are pretty good. Got to say though that i'm with biggestnizzy re: the toyos. I rate the t1r's highly at the money - great in the wet and sticky enough for usual road use. I feel a wee bit more sidewall flex than the re040's i replaced, but think that's more to do with swapping from 175s to 195s and running them at lower than standard pressures.
I'll be testing them in anger at SIDC later this month & fully expect to destroy them on a track though. The tread is very deep & i suspect they'll overhead quickly when caned hard.
Cheers,
Steve

Arriving broadside, in a cloud of smoke......
Correct - but they are beautifully predictable in the slidesteve_weegie wrote:

I used Stunner Scudos for a large part of the Scottish Sprint and Hillclimb Championships in 2005, but only because I ordered them by mistake when thinking that I was getting Dunlop R tyres.
They were OK on the road in the wet and dry, not too bad on the short runs in the Championship, but not recommended for a powerful car on the track. 48R's rule there.
However at £184 a set for the S1, T1R's for the road and shortish sessions on the track take some beating.
tut
ps never actually used them, just going on others reports.
