White Jeep Driver (prick)

Post by EliseR » Mon Jul 23, 2007 11:47 pm

Out enjoying the lovely East Lothian coastal roads this evening, when all of a sudden I am forced to break in a 60 speed limit down to 35mph. Some retard in a white jeep clearly needs his eyes tested, not only is he driving far too slow to be even remotely safe, he has clearly failed to take account of any of the cars behind him.

I eventually get in front of this complete twat (took a good ten minutes though), gave him the toot of the horn he deserves, so he decides to blare his 6+ headlights whilst driving right up my arse. Silly prat just ended up blinding himself, my mirror is pretty big. He kept up his idiotic games for a good 15 minutes...I got bored eventually and let him see what a REAL CAR can do :)

The guy deserves to loose his license, he's going to end up killing someone. And to think he had his kids in the back. Tut bloody tut.

Which means you were playing idiotic games too?
You'll get used to it - just don't entertain them - they'll soon get bored!

Ahem...takes two to tango... :)

Honestly mate, if you get wound up by what other 'idiots' do you'll soon become one, and likely reduce your life expectancy. Not worth bothering about IMHO.

Gary, if you want some serious driving with nobody around, check out some of the runs across the lammermuir hills. Not much traffic over there and some stonking driving and scenery. Take a mobile with you though... I'm sure they tried to use some of them as rally stages a while back but decided against it as they were deemed too dangerous

There's 2 roads from gifford / garvald to duns - one via cranshaws and one via longformacus. Stop off in duns for tea and the jim clark museum & jobs a good un :thumbsup Maybe the start of an east lothian run sometime??

Cheers,

Steve

I have had completely unprovoked, aggressive driving behaviour directed at me several times over the years, seemingly just because I am driving a Lotus, and the Exige seems to get more of this than the Elise for some reason. Simple fact is that however irritating the other driver is being, if you react in any way it is only ever going to make things worse, and trying to race off into the distance to show them how fast you can go is inviting an accident (especially when you have just passed your test!). I am sure an Elise R can go from A to B faster than than 99% of other cars on the road, but pretty pointless trying to prove it - leave that for the boy racers...

First big mistake mate.

Sorry, your reaction was no better than him. In this situation, please just pass him and get on with it - blasting horns does f**k all but make you look worse.

Oh dear is this a joke?? I thought most elise drivers were good drivers?

The guy can go 35 along a 60 if he wants. It doesnt matter if he has a F1 car behind him he doesnt have to do 60 in a 60. He only has to worry about what is in front of him.

You took 10 minutes to go past someone doing 35?

I think he should report you and your REAL CAR to the police before you kill someone.

A few years ago I was driving down to see my parents on a Sunday afternoon. After running down the motorway and 15 miles of A roads I was probably going a bit fast into the village and had to break very hard to stop myself hitting a 4 x 4 coming the other way. If it had been wet we would have had a head on.

Anyway I was a bit shocked when he got out his car and came over to me in an aggressive manner, what the fcuk do you think you were doing driving right down the middle of the road at that speed.

I just looked at him and pointed at the sign, “What you mean this one way streetâ€

1. Wasn't aware you needed to take any account of cars behind.
2. Can't believe you tooted at someone for driving within the speed limit, just because it was ruining your fun.
3. A perfectly understandable reaction (although still wrong)... after all he has had some mad man up his ass for the last 10mins looking like he was going to try an overtake at every opportunity... has kept his own speed down to make the overtake easier for you, and he gets a good tooting for it.
4. That kind of attitude will result in 1 thing only... and the jeep driver probably isn't interested in what your car can do anyway.
5. He deserves his license taken away for driving well within the speed limit and not ragging it while carrying his offspring? ahem... "let him see what a REAL CAR can do".. there is only 1 person in this story who requires their license taken off them.

Yes... we all try to seek out a road with low traffic so we can enjoy our cars... and yes, I'm sure we have all travelled at over the speed limit whilst doing so... but, it is not your god given right. I'm sorry for the negativity here but you need to show some restraint in these circumstances.

Think you need to book yourself on a trackday and get this out your system.

Andy.

EliseR: While they are frustrating, the 40 mph brigade are a fact of life, please be careful when stuck behind them and don't take extra risks to get past them, take your time and enjoy the view. Aggressive driving is going to get you noticed and it only take a couple of hacked off locals to report you and mr plod can take action now thanks to woolly wording and anti-ned legislation

I quite enjoy slowing down a bit now and then and taking in the countryside for a bit then blatting past at a suitable location. Quite often if you slow down, let them spot you and give them space they will wave you past anyway.

Also bear in mind we are a fairly conservative lot here and quite like keeping a low profile, please don't be surprised if you get a bit of stick from the members! :?

Everyone else: Please lets keep this friendly this time eh? We have all been guilty of driving like twats now and then ;) I know I have.

Dont see why you think thats harsh; people used to say to me "oh watch yourself or you`ll end up in a field" etc etc and it 100% made me more cautious.

Seeing photos like that ALWAYS makes me (and others, as we have had it on here before) tread a bit more carefully on the road.

And keeping fellow SEers safe has got to be a good thing.
