Big thanks to VXJon for taking me from work all the way up to Denny and back to get my Hurricane. They wouldn't let me touch the roof or anything else, but at least I got the Hurricane. Was weird seeing the car being brought out on a fork-lift truck!!

Thanks again Jon! :thumbsup

Got some pretty crap news today. Greenlight will not insure Elises (or Exiges) anymore. See my post in the Insurance section. So, if I want another Lotus (which I do), I'll need to go to another insurer. Greenlight will not give me a refund on my policy until the insurance companies come to an agreement over fault. Furthermore, until they decide whose fault it was, I have to say I have zero no claims and that I have a claim in progress.

So, basically, I need to go to another insurance company when I've already paid Greenlight £800 for only 2 months of cover and say I have zero no claims and an outstanding claim. There is no way I can afford that kind of insurance, unless I can find an amazing deal somewhere.

Just when I thought I was finally getting over all this and starting to cheer up and look forward to getting another Lotus, I've just gone right downhill again. I'm so pissed off. I really wanted another one, but it just looks like it's not going to be financially feasible now.

How long are they saying it'll take to determine fault? Try A Plan and a few others - don't get disheartened! It may take a bit longer - but you'll be back in a Lotus soon enough!

Dezzy man, chin up dude, all will come good. TBH, i would hang fire with another lizzy until the insurance companies sort out your claim - use this time to build some funds, save, invest, etc, and meanwhile you can torture youself by looking and not touching (my situation til March!) but hopefully when the claim is sorted you will have some NCB, and not have to declare a claim in progress.

Hope it all works out for you buddy.

Dave

Surly you have a no claims bonus until there is a find of fault against you. They can’t have it both ways.

Why not say that you have you X years NCB and one outstanding claim which has yet to be finalised but that you expect it to be “not your faultâ€

I had an outstanding claim with no admission of liability when I moved to Heritage they didn't seem bothered at all. I dunno what would happen if the decision went against me I assume my insurance would go up? Drop them a line and ask. They seemed pretty chilled out. All my mods cost me nothing extra.

Ah :? Sorry, no help then. I was in limbo when I did that. Maybe worth phoning them anyway?

I'm happy to hang off on another Lotus if I have to, but the problem is that I need a car of some type. Therefore, I'll have to get insurance and no matter what kind of car, will have to declare zero no claims and a claim in progress. Although, Greenlight said they'd let me add another car to the policy if it was not an Elise. But, for that to make sense financially and in terms of NCB, I'd need to keep that car until next June when the policy runs out. I'd really want a Lotus before then.

I'm going to shop around for insurance and see if it's as bad as I think it is. I think it's unlikely I'll get a good quote with someone who covers trackdays, so it'll be no more trackdays for me.

Just had a thought though, Heritage only insure with trackday cover if 28 and over. If I wait til after October, I'll be 28 and could maybe go to them.

Maybe I should take the sensible option and give up Elise ownership for a while and put the money towards mortgage savings? But I'll be missing a massive part of my life. I've made so many friends through owning that car, did so many things I never would have done before, and it was a big part of my life. Things just won't be the same if I don't get another.

Dezzy - you could get an S1 shed?

Did you have protected ncb?

If its being disputed, then you can get quotes using your current ncb, as long as you tell them you have had an accident - your aren't hiding anything - i suspect some of their tactics are designed to stop you going elsewhere.

Hope you get it sorted - a total PITA!!

Head up chap! It will all be fine!

I reckon a cheapo runabout is the way forward til you get it sorted. Then buy cheap come Winter time! :thumbsup

I'm with ed, get some sort of dieselish thing for everyday use and hold off until the depths of winter for a bargain - S2's must be fairly cheap this winter?

Cheers guys. I'll have a think about the cheap runabout idea.

I'm also going to call a couple of other insurance companies to see what they say about this idea of saying I have zero NCB.

Andy, I didn't have enough NCB to protect - just 2 years worth.

Get on the phone to those insurance companies.
My quote went from £470 with 3 years ncb, 0 points with Admiral.
To £750 with 0 ncb, 3 points and a 3 car total loss which is still unsettled, with Chris Knott.

My feeling was, why shouldn't I get another one.

Dezzy if the pay out figure is already over what you owe on the car, and revised figure is going to be a bit better. Then you have a clean slate finance wise, and a bit of cash in your pocket. If you look at equivalent year/model cars, they are also a bit cheaper than you paid, so you also don't have to borrow so much in the first place to get you back into one.

So, abit of cash in your pocket for the increased insurance, and a new finance deal with cheaper monthly payments.

Dezzy ask if they will insure you on a VX :?: I know how much you love the lotus badge but you could give it a try
