Stilson.

Post by pete » Wed Sep 12, 2007 2:04 pm

Does anyone have a Stilson wrench I could borrow to try and fix my new garage door (don't know why it is broken yet but I suspect I need to re-introduce tension into the spring that counter balances the weight of the door for which I need a Stilson...).

Preferably Killie/central belt.

You might want to consider getting a professional in to do the re-tensioning work.

I had a go at the very loosely wound spring on my garage door once and heard the locking pin go whistling past my ear after a few seconds.

Was pretty scary, more so when I read about all the garge door related injuries.

My old garage door had holes in the tensioning bit that you could use screwdrivers to tension the spring with. Did have a couple of screwdriver flying through the air moments though.

Don't have any Stilsons either I'm afraid.

It was an old door that you needed to use a bar and spanner for.

What's the worse that can happen - dent the door
