Another splurge of activity I made a run of bushes and have been dismayed that the drill I am useing cut's size! 16mm bang on, those from an engineering background will know how abnormal that is. so as a result much farting about with a reamer has been called for just to make them a slide fit for the 16mm steel sleeves I have to make I have ordered 2 new wheel bearings for the car as the existing bearing looked and felt a bit rough so I should have that sorted in the next couple of day's although I am of to Lorette de Mar at the end of the week and that put's work back a little. I had hoped I would have something together by now.

Job's that still need done
  • make sleeves from 16mm stubs
  • paint and assemble wishbones
  • get bearings and assemble hub
  • get duralac
  • assemble
  • start on other side (this should be faster as I now know what I am doing)
  • measure up steering arm on hub
  • manufacture pair of titanium steering arms :D:D:D:D
  • work on the back
as I was stripping the front hub's I ralised that the biggest contributor to unsprung weight was the metro hub/flange that you bolt the wheel onto can you get a lighter one of those or are you stuck with the cast iron job ?

So work should be finished on or around my 31st birthday 14th of October :D

Someone is doing some race-specific high-load hubs that are machined from alloy. Can't remember the name, but ask tut about him (Gaz, I think) Not cheap as they are specced for 24h racing on Honda powered cars...

Going to paint the wishbones this weekend just to make them look nice the goldygreenysilver of the beetleback looks crap especially as they are all pitted with rust so from a pure austhetic point of view I am going to paint them.

Thing is colour ?????

Black, Red, Orange, Silver are my idea's the car is Azure Blue

Bits left over are a good thing, part of the ongoing lightening program* The Porsche is at least a kilo lighter after I put the propshaft and gearbox back in. Washers are always so fiddly...

*However leaving some bits out will mean you crash within 10 secs of setting off...

I dunno when I took the engine out the clio and stripped the gearbox I had lot's left over including a M16 bolt :? and nothings fell out it and that was 2-3 years ago :D

I actually think I won't have enough bit's. I may have already lost some luckily I am doing 1 side at a time so I can just look at how it goes together.

I have also been thinking about nylon washers instead of steel as these don't corrode or add to electrolylic corrosion, but I'm not sure if they will cope (I also have 1 1/2m of Nylatron left)

I would stick with steel washers TBH. I don't think they are really going to be much of a problem.

Basically the only way to stop it is to use the same material, they all have slightly different electricwatchamcallits so will all react to some degree.

Durallac it,or stick with BZP steel. It's much easier.

Are you bored perchance?

a bit, so I'm thinking out loud.

going with plastics was my original thought but I have thought about carbon fibre as well you can buy* it in pre hardened sheets then you could make washers/shims with it. I have duralac on order and it should arrive tommorow.
