No.

He might still be quick but he only wants to race as team number one, in the best car, with no other serious rivals.

He said himself, as soon as a young driver appears who could challenge him he would call it a day. With Raikkonen, Hamilton, Spantard all going well I cant see him coming back.

Was never a fan of him when he raced but I would like him to return.
M. Hakkinen too..thought he was only on a break from F1 but never came back.

I have a suspicion that this will just drive the 'gizmos' the T/C, launch control, brake force etc into more cunningly hidden areas.

These guys are paid to find "the competitive edge".

It was done before (Ferrari, Benettton etc) and it'll happen again.

Yep. He announced his retiremant a couple weeks ago at the annual Mercedes bash/jamboree thingy.

Be interesting to know if Schumacher was using TC etc... it's been reported that McLaren and other rivals are already in TC-less mode at this first '2008' test. But no report has commented on Schumacher's car setup.

Hopefully that won't be the case this time round due to the standard ECU. When TC was banned in late 90's the teams ran open-loop systems that effectively gave TC based on gear selected, engine speed, throttle position and circuit position. So more pseudo-TC could be applied in 2nd gear than 6th gear. Hence some cars still made that awful hacking noise on exits. This option (at least) won't be available this time round... or at least it will be heavily compromised since any map will have to work exiting hairpins in 1st/2nd aswell as hitting 6th gear on the main straight.

Aye. It made me laugh when commentators said Schumacher would be useful to Ferrari cos he has TC-less F1 experience... Benetton '94 with the hidden TC and launch control system anybody?

Senna had very strong views on the Schumacher's Benetton having watched it from behind the barrier at the Pacific GP in '94... and the FIA crypitically announced at season end ('94 or '95 - can't remember which) that a team had cheated but they couldn't prove it in law so had to turn a blind eye.

Very true.

I think that t/c etc or a sort will be integrated within the diffs to detect/monitor/limit slippage. Shouldn't be too hard to engineer for these guys.

I think Mr Hamilton will do quite well having recently come from the (officially) T/C-less GP2. Likewise Kovalainen and Rosberg.

yep, last season in DTM marked his retiermenet tho I'm sure he'll come back for the odd thing or 2.. can't do detox that quickly.. he was really fast in DTM..

despite not having the fatest car all the time he put on a good show..

Are they not using a STD Ecu next year ? is so like tuscan_thunder has already said they will just stick it elsewhere sensors on the diff monitoring slippage etc these could send a signal to the ecu tricking it into cutting power, just think about those kit's you get for the rover mems that modifies data to the ecu so the ecu does things different to what it was designed to do.

If I can come up with something surely they can.
