Post by ABZ-Elise » Sat Nov 24, 2007 10:14 pm

My exhaust blew today so its a good excuse to buy a 4-2-1 manifold :D Whats the best manifold to fit? and would it worth getting this done http://www.zircotec.org/page/home/1 to reduce the under bonnet temp.

Mine is a Piper small bore. Does what it says on the tin.

Heatwrapped it as it was cheap. I will never every do that agani, horrible job.

ohh... can of worms... Had a bit of a discussion at Seloc about that :)

With a K-series, I don't see a huge advantage of heatwrapping or coating. The only thing you have to keep in mind is to heatshield the alternator. (and use the standard heatshielding)

Although they do bring some performance benefit, I don't like solid manifolds. Problem with them is cracking and extra load on the head. Things like steady engine mounts are a bad approach as they will increase vibrations and introduce new problems.

IMHO the best middle of the road solution is a 4-2-1 with a built in flex.
This will cost some power/torque compared to a solid manifold, but it will save you from other trouble.

I would recommend the piper one and I would also buy the S2-type heatshields from Lotus (about 20 quid for the manifold one and 10 quid for the bottom one) - they fit the piper manifold and it's much better than the crappy cardboard thing that you get with the S1.

Cheers,
Robin

Kev

You have a standard engine, though I know that you are thinking of upgrading. Otherwise stick to standard parts apart from exhaust box and free flow air filter panel. Anything else is a waste of money.

Agree with Yvo and Robin, a 4-2-1 will be beneficial if you get to T/B's, restores mid range torque, but make sure you use a flexi section. Leave the manfold lagging alone, does not come into it until you get to S/C Honda levels.
