I'd still prefer the sound of the Aston...

...and I think it comes with a Linn hi-fi as standard. :D

Another recommendation for tonyg here

He must of spent hours setting up various systems for me to hear over several months and of course I ended up choosing exactly what he suggested within 5 mins of me walking in the shop :D

Beware though, I only went in to buy a hi-fi and got talked into buying a daft wee sports car

Glasgow Audio recently stopped dealing with cyrus and so are doing really good deals, you'd get a really nice cyrus system and combine it with B&Ws, also some nice rotel or audiolab kit for that kind of money the audiolab 8000i is very nice.

Another boost to Tony Gibson who had my Quad 405-2 repaired for me last week, and Clare picked it up today.

Can't speak for the solo specifically but arcam have always had a good rep for producing gear that gives a good all round performance where some compromise is required.
Their AV amps and DVD's are probably as good as you'll get (in that price bracket) if you want something that handles both music and movies well.
I'd reckon you could do a lot worse if you need a one box solution.

Harman Kardon sound fantastic.

But Ken makes a good point about where you will place the stereo etc. Go into a few shops and have a listen.
