I'd hazard a guess that the same accident may well have still happened in a T350.

Sure, a T350 has extra weight so you would think that might help the tyres cut through the water below, but the engine is up front, not over the back wheels... and I'm not sure I'd be wanting to break traction of the rears in a TVR over standing water any more than I'd want to in a Lotus.

I'm sure you mentioned before that you were going to hibernate the Lotus over winter... but the urge got you... If you are sure this time that your next sporty car is going to be dry days only then there's no problem getting another Lotus then eh ;)

Andy.
Cheers Andy, always wondered about the T350's safety features. And you are right, i reckon the same accident would of occured(and might have been even scarier) in a TVR.

Nope another Lotus isnt a problem, just wondering if there are any alternatives i could try before buying an Exige S

How safe are they in an accident?

Safety is gonna be a huge factor in my next purchase, i do like T350's, almost bought one before the Elise.
Ricky, if you think an Elise is a handfull a T350 is a thousand handfulls . . . seriously . . . I've driven a T350 and Tuscans and, frankly, they are medallion man suicide machines . . .

Here's the result of a bad handling car with far too many horsepower and not enough grip and a damp road . . . with a driver who was not incapable . . .

Image

Having saved the drivers life at the side of the road (yes - seriously) following this crash (where the car was upside down in a ditch and the drivers head hit the ground) AND driven the cars . . . I would strenuously avoid . . . they are terrible compared to an Elise . . .

And even if you granny it about like miss daisy and avoid the handing issues . . . youll need an engine rebuild eventually . . . think K series HGF but 10x the cost and absolutely guaranteed . . .

$0.02

Cheers for that mate, that was always my biggest concern with the TVR, crap handling and probably a crap safety record.

Deffo NO to a T350 guys, anything else?

Only just seen this and gutted for you Ricky, but really glad you walked away from it. If it's even small consolation, I can totally empathise after my crash last year (although yours was MUCH worse  ) and you do get over it :D

cheers

Ricky still cant believe how you walked away from a crash like that a true testiment to the Lotus build quality protecting the driver.

Sadly I saw a very similar crash late last night on the Haylie Brae Road at Largs not sure how that driver got on. Terrible driving conditions last night :?

Just spotted this thread, looked a sore one but you are here to tell the tale- glad you are OK mate.

You did it good though!

I wouldnt be tempted by any of the other options, but its a good excuse to go test-driving.

glad ur ok.
accidents happen, and urs certainly came along in a big way!
its spookily similar to mine, in that i crashed at 50ish into a ditch, luckily my turned end on end, not over like urs.
both of us got off lightly with the injuries... in any normal thinking.

no car is a black box, but the elise comes v close to it :D
id feel safer in the elise than a normal car, except vs a lorry!!
its nice to find the interior staying put - coz thats where u sit :D

hope u get whatever result makes u happy.
and decisions can be undone by other decisions, so whatever u do it wont be the end of the world if its wrong :D

my doctor said i should have replaced my 111r with an exige - only coz it had a roof to protect me from the grass and bushes that brushed my hair in my crash :D lol!!

Please bear in mind this isn't a "winter only" type of accident. We've been having such crap summers of late you can get standing water any time of the year. I drove up the A90 last summer in the worst torrential rain I've ever seen, must have been a couple of inches across both lanes in places. Slowed down to 35/40 while everyone else just kept booting it past me. Never been so petrified in my life, waiting for someone to ram me in the poor visibility. I guess they were all laughing at the pussy in the sports car, but I don't give a sh1t. The good thing about an Elise is that you don't feel isolated from the environment as you do in most everyday cars, therefore you don't get a false sense of security.

Get the Exige S with the PPP or whatever its called.

or a nice 240 Cup - bit rarer/more special IMHO. Robbie's white one is awesome!

There also some of the Exige S Club Racers left down south.

other things to consider - 7/Atom/2-11/Elise S1/ Exige S1
AMG GT-R
Atom 4 - CM425
Lotus Esprit S4S
G30 M5 Comp
Ferrari 599
Lotus Elise S1 "Shed" spec
