And the prize for diplomacy goes to the tall, baldy guy with the loud voice....
He just can't see anyone else's point of view can he?
I think I'd have replied like this
"Sorry guys, it's just temporary until the work is done, would've been finished last week but the snow held us up. I AM A DRIVING GOD"

I was quite expecting him to say that he realised that the cones were not a good idea and he promises to think more about his paying customers in the future."Sorry guys, it's just temporary until the work is done, would've been finished last week but the snow held us up. I AM A DRIVING GOD"

It's funny, but even though he has agreed to do what we all want, he has still p!ssed us off, that takes talent or is it just an oversized ego?

Just to clarify towing eyes have never been mentioned on the three trackdays I have done at Knockhill this / last year (brunty, dreadnought and mx5 night) and thus i didn't have one on when i turned up the other night. On the dreadnought and mx5 night i specifically went to the "novice" briefing as well
Maybe I'm being niave, but i simplty wasn't aware of this as a requiement.......i know they've been going on about covered limbs etc for months now but not a mention of towing eyes.
Just thought i'd mention it

I've always just taken it as a given - get to track, change to trackplates, stick in towing eye.
It's a bit like helmets - you aren't always told to wear one, but we all know that we should.

I think Rich, you have hit the confused nail on the head.
The problem on Monday was that the 2 cars had went in nose first, so they weren't able to pull them out that easily. It's an issue more for us than for Kh as we are the folk paying for the trackday and we don't get to drive whilst they are dragging cars out the gravel traps.
So, in my most humble opinion, we should all ensure that our front towing eyes are inplace prior to going on track and those who wish (and I'm hoping that everybody does) purchase and fit a towing eye to the rear of the cars (from Stu).
If we keep our house in order it's so much easier to comment on others

Like i said it's maybe me being niave, but as a complete newbie to the trackday lark i hadn't given it a thought until Monday night.mac wrote:I've always just taken it as a given - get to track, change to trackplates, stick in towing eye.

Do what you like with your rear helmet....Lazydonkey wrote:Will be fitting front and rear for next time thoughmac wrote: It's a bit like helmets - you aren't always told to wear one, but we all know that we should.

Sorry mate, but it's really nothing like helmets. I can't see a situation where the marshall would let you out of the pitlane without a helmet?mac wrote:I've always just taken it as a given - get to track, change to trackplates, stick in towing eye.

We've been doing TDs for a couple of years so we think of it, but as a newbie it's all too easy to get caught up with nerves and forget things. That's why we need to attend a briefing and thats why the briefings (especially beginners) need to be totally comprehensive. It's bloody rich Forrest moaning about towing eyes when it was two relative newbies in the gravel who had probably never read or heard the requirement for eyes to be fitted. Also, his quoting of regs which we really have no easy access to also smacks of arch high-horsery.
I hate people I'm paying good money to (and as Neil said, per-hour they are getting quite enough from us), treating me like I should be grateful to be allowed anywhere near a track. There's no need, and the man needs an attitude check.

Shug,
I'm not condoning Ian Forrest tone or actions. We are the customer, if he doesn't want our money then he shouldn't run track days.
The front towing eye fitment for me is a non starter - it's always in. There was a problem on Monday with getting the cars out of the kitty litter, but it was down to the lack on a rear towing eye being incorporated into the elise design, not the non fitment of front ones.
And as for the helmet - Does Rox post on here? I vividly recall him being black flagged for driving without a helmet. Think it took 2 or 3 laps for folk to actually notice - turned out that he was in so much of a rush to get on track that he hadn't even taken it out the boot!
