Earphone socket
Earphone socket
Hi,
Wot would be required to have a earphone socket put in next to the seat so i could plug in my earplugs and listen to some music. I KNOW i'm gonna get flamed for the "engine is music" and "turn up the stereo" etc but for the longer drive i'd rather have noise cencelling earplugs and music at a decent level.
It's the standard Exige S2 stereo thats in it and no option for audio out at front. Surely someones done it before.
lol. Even writing this i'm thinking ive hit that age thing i used to laugh at my dad for! Damn.

i used an MP3 player and a set of Shure (earphones) with mine, way easier, and the sound isolation protects your ears from loud Zausts over longer distances.
Have used that for the 111r, the RLC and now the Atom (even though the helmet is wired for the intercom which you can connect the mp3 player to).
In theory though all you'd need to to it is an aux cable with a 3.5mm female connection on it. They tend to all have 3.5mm males for plugging in to MP3 players though.

Technically you'd really need a stereo with pre amp outputs and a headphone preamp.
And remember that wearing headphones while driving could probably get you done for "driving without due care and attention"

Debatable - my sis is a Dr and when she got in my 111r as a pax warned me quite seriously about the damage being in it for a prolonged time would have on my hearing. Started using Shure's with an MP3 player shortly after.ceejam wrote: And remember that wearing headphones while driving could probably get you done for "driving without due care and attention"
When Ed's zaust broke on the way back from Knockhill i lent them to him to prtect his hearing!
The RLC was even worse. (and we ditched the radio, speakers etc) Ask anyone on French Frolic, esp Tut, Ali, Jaci & Scotty! And the Gendarmes in Monaco!
The Atom has no stereo, so no option there really either.
You soon become aware though when you are in a situation of sufficient seriousness for your hearing to be beneficial to either turn it down or switch it off.

I always feel bad about wearing headphones in the car (done it 2 or 3 times) incase I miss an ambulance/fire engine, and with noice cancelling ones that'd feel much worse. My Sony EX71SL's aren't proper noice cancelling ones and I feel weird walking along the street with them on... :/

I use the shure one in the caterham - I don't find that they cancel noise more that they condition the sound so that it doesn't interfer with the music.
I don't feel isolated when wearing them, something that I can't say about the hearing protection I wear at work

Thanks guys, think i'll get a socket fitted next to the seats in the centre and try it out. Think it might feel weird right enough with hardly any noise and only music whilst driving.
Anyway the Exige has such a good rear view im sure i'll see any emergency services creeping up !!! lol
