Re: Suspension : Steering :Blog
now thinking the scraping noise is due to disks/pads being moved about when it was all stripped down

Re: Suspension : Steering :Blog
bushes seem to be fine, I have not noticed the harshness but as the car has been off the road for so long it's hard to remember what it was like,(que have a shot of my unmolested S1) the geo needs done and I have some niggily wee bits to put right.
Thing about the Geo is I have aluminium steering arms and aluminium camber shims, I removed 7mm from each side and replaced it with 8mm (2 bits of 4mm as thats what was lying about) I plan on machining these to get the camber set correctly will it effect my geo if I get it done, and get a size for the shims i.e. -1mm. then I take it home remove the shims and get them machined (my shim design is easily removed without needing to remove the steering arm)
will this effect the other elements of my geo adversly ?
oh and what kind of settings does everyone recomend ? please bear in mind my lack of talent and my adversion to buying tyres.

Worth a read at the page above to figure out what you want though.
The camber and toe is quite well separated in the Elise setup - although the caster setting will mean that there will be minute differences in toe when you change camber. I'd put money on it that it'd take a F1 test driver to notice the difference though. That said - get a quick & dirty toe setting and check the camber, then when you set the camber properly, get it all done properly.
