Exhausts........again..

Would probably weigh a ton compared to the competition - bearing in mind if you want a quiet cruise, you have to make the backbox big enough to quieten it - then add extra pipework for the straight-thru bit. Plus, if you're making something that complicated (think about getting power/vaccum there to switch the valve, then cables to the cockpit for the switch - doesn't sound like much, but it'll all add up) it can't help but be expensive.

Remember that the S2 K Series 111S has a valved exhaust as standard, with a flap opening up the second tailpipe switched by the ecu at high revs and activated using vacuum pressure from the inlet manifold. Admittedly that exhaust probably does weight a ton and didn't sound anything special, but the point is that the basic mechanism has already been done on a standard Elise by Lotus, so it cant be that hard or expensive. Given that noise restrictions seem to be getting tighter at most UK circuits there has to be a market for a switchable exhaust, even if it was more expensive.

Re: Exhausts........again..
That just opened the second tailpipe though - did relatively little for sound. What you're talking about would require a pretty much total bypass or (more complicated) a less restrictive path through the muffler - more pipework, more weight (two exhaust paths through the silencer basically). I agree it could be done cleverly with baffling, but probably not within the budget of an aftermarket exhaust company without it costing thousands as an end product. Market is there for that sort of cost with Aston & Ferrari, etc, but I can't see it with Lotus.
Still, I await being proven wrong.

Re: Exhausts........again..
I think the Kreisseig one is pretty much a total bypass and that costs over a grand IIRC, so you may well be right about it being just too expensive for an aftermarket company to develop. Oh well, I live in hope....maybe Lotus will do something clever on the Evora or the Elise S3 if it ever arrives....

Eek, I'm lost now. Was looking at the Janspeed which is normally 375. PTP are doing it for 300. BUT apparantly it's 13kg so would offer no weight savings....l1_cwb wrote:Hi Paulo,
In my opinion there can only be one choice....Larini! The note from their "Sports" box is beautiful!! Its proper motorsport. Officially its sound tested at 96dB so not over the top loud.
At this point i'll admit that I am biased because thats what i have fitted to my 111R but honestly, you can never get bored of that sound
The downside to choosing the Larini over others would be cost and service. The cost isn't a major issue, it might be a little more expensive than others but it is proper quality kit and fit & finish are excellent. Service, however, is the weakness. I'm pretty sure from reading posts on here that i'm not the only person that has had to wait around 5 weeks for delivery after being told at the time of order that it would arrive in 2wks max. The guys in the sales and enquiry office are spot on and help as much as they can but if you do order one, expect a delay. That way you wont be so dissapointed when it takes longer than predicted. I'll tell you right now though, once it arrives and is fitted you'll forgive them for the delays and think its the best exhaust you've ever owned....or maybe thats just me

Re: Exhausts........again..
Try getting any comeback from Larini when your sound deadening material has disappeared within a year.
"You were obviously using your exhaust system for a purpose it was not designed for."
I was using it as an exhaust system you bunch of tossers.

Re: Exhausts........again..
ps Paolo. It probably sounds good because it has crap insulation to deaden the noise.
Watch it burn............

Mac said the same about Quicksilver. I think I'll forget it now - see what I can find down Kwik-fittut wrote:Try getting any comeback from Larini when your sound deadening material has disappeared within a year.

Re, 2bular's, they are not necessarily loud, Jim can do you one that will have a nice throaty growl and still pass a 98db limit on Englandshire tracks.
