Discs scored a bit.....

Post by jj » Fri May 12, 2006 1:29 pm

... so, after managing to get back from KH, pick up some pads yesterday, and then get home without using the brakes, I got them changed over no problems.

But, the disc which had the low pad has been scored (unavoidably) about 12mm in from the outside edge. It is not ridged or "lower" than the rest of the disc, just rough where the metal to metal action has been.

My question is, now that the new pads are in, is this going to go away or is it going to in some way feck up further down the line? The discs themselves were new 2k ago.

Spanks in advance,

Really need a photo to be sure but......

Shouldn't be too much of an issue - the pads will bed in around the scoring.

You could always have them lightly skimmed if your a worrier.

Interested to know this also but my guess is the pad is softer than the disk therefore the disk will be shaped by the grove in the disk. :?:

If it's going to be a concern, get Stu to skim the disks.

I wasnt sure if the pads themselves would "wear down" the scored bit and all would return to being well.

No worries here so I`ll leave it be for a bit and see what happens.

Mine looked badly scored after a trackday or 2 ago, once the new pads were fitted and bedded in it dissapeared.

Unless its very deep I would think it would be fine.

I did the same thing about 4 times on the CTR, 11 track days and 45k miles on the same set of discs no probs.

JJ - I suspect you went for the greenstuff (you mentioned the guy from P&C in earlier posts)

If so they used to come with a jagged red coating - this is there to act as a gentle abrasive (think exfoliant) so may clean you discs up nicely.

Mac,

Yeah went for the greenstuff as I felt going for the expensive pads would be wasted on me, I would rather have a way of putting better stuff on the car later on and appreciate the difference as I go rather than batter in with the expensive stuff.

Read some forum chat on exiges.com and SELOC and they also had them in stock.

£44 for front set and hes ordered in the rears so cant complain.

Pretty much what I suggested then.

I progressed from std to greens to pagids and you learn to appreciate the improvements.

Say can be said for my engine mods and wheel/tyre/dampers too.

Too poor to buy all that I want so it gets bought and fitted in stages - I think you get more smiles to the gallon that way.
