 eh... nope, not with his scrubbed in tyres... A bit closer to him on his new tyres, only 2 secs off his pace but he changed tyres to his old scrubbed set for his final run and took another 3 secs off his time for the day.

My tyres aint quite working at there best yet.

Welcome to the world of sand bagging - the wily competitor will only go as fast as s/he needs to to remain in P1 - as you get faster, the gap mysteriously remains the same :-)

Not that it takes away from what you achieve - the experience is invaluable - so your goal is to learn and get better and most importantly enjoy!

Cheers,
Robin

As Robin says, Graeme, especially at Kames when you can see the timer before you cross the line, will aim at beating the record by tenths of a second, so that he can then lower it again.

However in 2005 due to lack of experience, I just drove as fast as I could and lowered it from around 96 secs to 91. Of course then it becomes difficult to lower it further either that year or the next, to get your max points of 32.

Have you painted the sidewalls of your tyres????

Surely you dont NEED to do that to race your car? Think of the extra unsprung weight of the paint

I countered that by removing a good few millimetres of front clam on the speed bumps when I had the ride height set too low.

Good thing is that this year might be the last year this is possible. There's talk of awarding points as a percentage of the lap record.

A percentage of the outright lap record Mac?

Interesting, looking at the results from Sunday, Graeme was obviously doing some serious sandbagging and (from my maths) took over 7/10ths off his class record, lowering it to 79.33. A proper effing quick time for an Elige btw (up there with the Caterham/Westies). :thumbsup

To give it some perspective my best anti-clockwise time in 2005 was 86.08 (I thought low 85 was possible with a clean run), this in a car that was running around 62's at KH...

Graeme was using new non scrubbed tires in practice and only changed to his scrubbed set for his timed runs. The pactice times are not representive.

Your talking about his tyres, what about the fact he has had a car that has essentially stayed the same for the past few seasons, has all the right bits in all the right places and not forgetting a good experienced driver in both him and Jennifer. He has won the championship 2 years on the trot with that car that I know of, so has Jeniffer.
Plus he is in his, I think, 9th year competing. Familiarity with the car and experience is a hard combination to beat. Your not doing the championship anyway so relax and enjoy yourself. From the guy that just spent 1000's so his car would be quicker  .

I collect my coat and shut the door behind me...................

P.S. Graeme did once tell me not to pay any attention to his practice times BTW.

The third timed run on the Saturday was an 86.01 so that's not too shoddy then. :D I'm happy with that. :thumbsup

My mistake in the maths, didn't realise Sunday was clockwise so Graemes time works out at 88.04 - still blindingly quick. Clockwise I did 95.23 and tut a 91 with N1 (N/A Honda).

Yup, good times John (although R rated tyres worth at least a couple of seconds at Kames, I was on Toyo T1-R's) ;) :D
Iain F did 94 back in the day with a completely standard 120bhp K-series S2...after about a hundred laps! ;)

Times should come down a fair bit when I get the Emerald fitted, and the tires worn down closer to the optimum. You can see in the video that I was shifting early (6k) so that compromised the run as well.

More practice required.. 94 in a stock S2, now that is impressive...

With the extra experience and N3 I think that I would be pushing his 88 secs now Ali.

The gearing with N1 was not ideal at Kames but with the extra power and S/C torque of N3 it would have been better suited. I was lapping KH around 62 secs then but more like 57-58 now.

Hmm...I think N1 was a bit quicker than that, my std S2 111S on T1-R's would do sub 63 all day round KH, McApes N/A Honda closer to 58.

Honda's not allowed in class though...you need to be looking at 82.49.

Booked on for the test day again the day before the Machars Car Club round at Kames.

With a bit of luck, everything will be working as it should and the times should come down a bit again.
Clockwise I believe for the test day and the Championship round.
95.2 secs the target then.
