I've also visited the ditches on Otterburn - althought it was many years ago ( 20 + ) & I was in the passenger seat , the result was no where near as damaging as your trip into the scenery either.

Hi
Just along the road from you in Crieff
(where you were schooled if I am correct)
There are a few FP Lotus owners on here
(we did the tour of mull back in the seventies!)

Yes i was schooled there , a few years ahead of you  ,not really sure if there was much educational benefit ,but the parties were always ace :thumbsup
I dont think they have resurfaced much of mull since the 70's so its prob not changed much since you were there, its still a fantastic rally and social event at the same time with an incredible atmosphere which you dont really get at any other event

Agreed
The event is probably more politically correct now
The evening before the rally was a pub crawl called the tour of tobermory
You had to drink a pint in the first and last pub, with half pints in the pubs in between
You got extra points for making the parrot talk in the mcdonald arms ( I got barred for pouring my drink over it - but it didn't half squalk !

When the rally finished at six in the morning - the pubs were still open
Happy days

the parrot must be dead  either that or we havent been sober enough to notice it.
The police take a healthy interest in the rally now and set up speed traps everywhere during rally week to keep the visitors under control. IMHO i dont really mind that cos otherwise it would be like the TT for fatalities. Also it keeps the locals sweet as there is a rising resistance to the rally from some quarters. Any excuse and all that.
