My car immobilised me again recently. The AA got me to MMC on a saturday morning and i was dealt with by Fraser. He said the car would be looked at that day or on Monday and i would get a call. Thursday came and still no word so i called them and got a lame excuse.

Turned out i needed a new alarm/immobiliser system even though it was replaced by MMC 15 months previously

Slight mix up on payment when Fraser tried to overcharge me by about £80. I told him a price had been agreed over the phone and this was sorted.

Took the car away. Tried the immobiliser/alarm. It didn't work properly and my car had mysteriously developed a horrible creaking noise from the steering.

Took the car back.

They called me and told me the immob/alarm had been reset and a steering bushel (?) had been lubricated.

Picked the car up and the immobiliser was sorted but the creaking was still there. Too tired to bother taking it back :tired

In summary: I can definately see improvements and they were good at dealing with the AA for my parts and labour cover BUT there is more that can be done on customer service/communication.

This is the kind of stuff that makes all the difference.

*anyone know how long the warranty is on a British GT Edition? :D

To summarise my good experience with MMC recently.

My car had problems sticking in 1st and 2nd gears for which Calum travelled up to Aberdeen to inspect the car, read ECU for warranty etc. This is a great help btw, more than half of the early miles on my old S2 Exige were to Edinburgh and back for warranty work (always at least twice for each issue).

The delivery of replacement parts took a fair bit of time but that's a Lotus issue.

Pick up of the car was offered but would have caused a delay (I think access to the truck is limited which could be improved) so I took the decision to drive the car down to get the repair moving quicker.

There was a warranty scare discovered when the car was on the ramps (see above) but Craig resolved it perfectly in my favour. My feeling is that in the past this kind of thing may have just been dumped back on me - good to see MMC looking after the customer and fighting their corner.

There were a couple of other issues resolved to my satisfaction - front rotors are now 308mm grooved (ones I'd bought when at the factory/Snetterton) rather than cross drilled and had new front wheel arch liners fitted. (I will be modding the old (worn through) arch liners to become the 'track set' - either Frank's GRP bubble solution or alu sheet to protect the back of the lights.)

Again, delivery on the truck would have caused additional delay so I agreed for it be driven back to Aberdeen. It arrived on Wednesday with everything sorted and a full tank of fuel. The replaced parts in the gearbox mean 1, 2 & 3 are a bit stiffer to engage but Craig assures me this will ease with usage and has offered a mechanic to come up if any further adjustment to linkage etc is needed.

Throughout I've been impressed with the level and quality of communication from Craig - this has been a step change in my opinion. All in all a positive dealer experience. :thumbsup

btw when returning calls to MMC, is it just me or is the receptionist trigger happy on the transfer button with everyone?
"I'll just put y...", click!

Following on from this I’m sure a few of you will be aware of the continuing problems I’ve had with the gearbox after initially being OK.

When coming down out of 5th I was unable to select any gears (and had to coast to a halt a few times) and it was exhibiting some other strange issues (which were eventually traced to the clutch clearances). At this point I was concerned about the rapidly approaching French Frolic trip and with the car out of warranty I was even looking around for replacement gearboxes.

Anyway I had the car recovered back to MMC who then set to work. The top end of the box was stripped again and problems found (Craig sent me the pics). It took a bit of time but Craig kept me updated with progress and did his utmost on my behalf with respect to warranty and the financial side.

I put a new TRD up-rated clutch on the car which Craig even sourced cheaper from Lotus with SE discount than I could get anywhere else (Fennsport etc.).

The car was back together and running OK last week so for my peace of mind before FF decided to book it on the LoT trackday at Knockhill for a shakedown. Craig offered to bring the car up (plus the Evora) and have Calum there on the day in case of any issues or adjustments.

Craig thought 1st gear was a little tight and maybe needed a very slight cable adjustment but though he could have been being hyper critical. After warm up then some full on laps in the dry his concerns were confirmed and I lost 2nd coming into the hairpin. Craig set to work in the pit garage and had it sorted in no time (while I went off to play in someone else’s car – unfortunately I could never find the keys to the Evora…). ;)

The car was perfect after that apart from a twice requiring a higher force to change out of 1st when going for fuel at lunchtime. This happened again on the way home (first traffic lights after cruising for 2 hours in 6th) but has since been fine. Craig offered another gearbox oil change as a precaution. I’ll get this done at MMC on the way to France on the 8th.

In the end it was an ideal result for the day. I needed to get the confidence back that the car was going to be OK for the trip next month and this has been achieved. I thoroughly enjoyed the trackday and bonded with the car again – it really is an awesome machine!
I’d like to thank Craig and Calum for going above and beyond the call of duty to get this resolved, coming up to the track was fantastic, a great way to shakedown the car.

When is the Knockhill service branch opening? ;)

I think I even saw Calum changing someones brake pads in the pits? :)
Thankfully no sign of Craig with the VISA machine… ;)

Joking aside Craig’s commitment and communication was first class throughout what I’m sure was not an easy situation and I’m delighted with the result. 110% for MMC.

Great result Ali, and a thumbs up for MMC, Craig and Calum.

Good to see that you had the traction Control switched off in the rain when we were hooning around in the wet together, no talent masker needed. As with Robin, I am going to pass you in the dry, but tis much more fun driving on the limits in the wet where power does not come into it.

Actually having a rethink now after Monday. My car was the fastest on the track and so it should be with a S/C Honda in it and an experienced track driver. But not sure that I am getting the same enjoyment out of it as when I had to work hard in the K series to pass people. It breezes past even yours in the dry, even more so with Andy, but end result was that I was not lapping with anybody on the day in the dry, which is what I enjoy, but then again what can I do as I can hardly undo it?

About 280 at present Stuart, but I must get around to putting the correct size S/C pulley and crankshaft pulley on which will give the 310+hp which it should be putting out.

Sorry that we only spoke as you were leaving Stuart, but I was trying to get around to meet the LOT members that had come up from down South.

We will get together next time that we have a trackday.

Another thumbs up for Craig and Calum at MMC from me.

I went to pop something in the boot on Thursday and saw there was no coolant in the overflow tank.
MMC had a quick look on Friday afternoon and diagnosed a slow coolant leak, but did not have time to find the source.
Calum topped up the coolant, and it looked ok over the weekend, so I decided to risk it on Monday at the LOT day.

Having MMC on hand a Knockhill was reassuring for a newbie with minimal car knowledge. Fortunately there was little coolant loss due to my lack of pace.
After seeing the lack of friction material on Peter's inner brake pads I asked Calum to check mine. The verdict was they would last the day, so a bit more cash saved.

Hopefully the 18k service next week will go smoothly and the coolant problem is an easy fix. Roll on FF8.

Excellent service - thanks again.

No apology needed tut. It was only right the visitors from the south were properly welcomed. When I said as I was leaving that I was off before the red mist descended, I didn't mean that I was irked with anyone. I was aware that on each lap I was pushing it further and further and thought that it was better to quit while ahead as it was my first track day in my own car. I think they call that maturity, at least thats what I'm going with!! In years past I'd have kept going till I stuck it in the gravel, or worse, the tyre wall.

It was an excellent day and I learned much from the experience. Next time I think I'll get a few laps with some of you chaps as I struggled with a few lines during the day.

300+ bhp!! Little wonder you were finding it a bit of a drag!

Stuart.

Another BIG :thumbsup for Craig and Keith.

One of the locking wheel nuts was well stuck and broke 5 sockets in the effort to take it out. Finally, Craig managed to get it off by welding a non Lotus socket onto the bolt. Great result :D

The stage three exhaust was replaced under warranty at the same time too. The CR sounds much healthier 8)

Very happy with the service received at MMC.

Well recommended. Thanks.

Hi,

Had my second indicator unit replaced at MMC this week, as usual quick, helpful service.

I know this thread is turning into a bit of a MMC love-in recently, but it must mean something?

I've just been reading back through this thread and noticed this . . .

The last time I needed 48s I called MMC. I wasn't surprised. They can't get anywhere near Ronnie's prices at Wheelsaround. I have a lot of positive things to say about MMC, so no big criticism here - I'm just very surprised if you got 48s cheaper at MMC than from Wheelsaround. Last time I got them from Wheelsaround the rears were £145 each (inc. fitting/balancing). That's cheaper than MMC's SE discount price, unless it's recently changed. Did you pay less than that for a rear 48 fitted?

Are you saying you got them cheaper than that? And you say it included a geo?! I thought MMC charge around £70 or thereabouts for a full suspension geo (although that was a couple of years ago) . . . are you saying they gave you a free or very cheap geo along with the fitting and balancing of the wheels??

Just very confused as I didn't think there was anyway they could get close to Ronnie's prices for 48s.

Cheers,
D

Murray Motors

Post by Walter Mclachlan » Mon Aug 03, 2009 9:18 pm

Take a well done Murray Motors
I would like to thank Craig and the mechanics at Murray Motors for the warranty work carried out to my Exige.
They picked up the Knackered Air Con and also the gear linkage prob when I was in to get my Lambda sensor replaced.
Also on the service and true to their word I got the 10% discount.
I will be back.
