Egos have taken over. Tis becoming a challenger for Fifth Gear.

However Jay Leno is always worth watching and has the money to be the car nut that he is. Loved the story of the two undercover cops in his McLaren F1.

Vaux stuff at the start was amusing but the vantage article actually had me staring open mouthed at the TV.

I thought it was a fake ending.......or that my PVR had b*ggered up with the recording.

Complete waste.

I'm normally a staunch defender of TG - the whole "if you don't like it, don't watch it" camp. But, I noticed a change last week. We were coming back up from Alton Towers and I said to the wife, "as long as we're home for 9 I don't mind." Expression of shock from the good lady - "what about Top Gear?! Are you recording it?" I wasn't - I just wasn't all that bothered.

I also found myself shouting at Hammond last night - the wife thought I was in a crap mood, but I just couldn't put up with his one comment too many retorts to clarkson comments.

Compare an S4 to a supercharged V8? Muppets. An RS4/RS6/M5/M3/Merc AMG would have eaten that for breakfast. I do have to concede that as the RS4 is out of production it wouldn't be appropriate. TG only survived in my psyche before when JC did the car review. Hammond is an utter muppet.

Saw the V12 vantage and thought, "excellent, a proper piece of journalism - Clarkson in a V12 Aston. Time to get comfy..."

Pump. Utter pump. I wanted to hear about the handling with all that weight over the nose, I wanted to hear about it having a shaved strut brace so the engine could be fitted in... the oil filter jammed in an incessible position all to make car possible. Was it worth it? Who f*cking knows?!?!

Bunch of grumpy old barsteward....

Loved the remake of the VW ad where the guy shot himself. Thought the ending was beautifully shot too.

Had a wee chuckle when watching the Audi bit... said out loud... "Bet Greg has a wee rant about that one".. :damnfunny

Top Gear ftw!!!

Can't disagree more. That piece was the best bit of TG for the last few years. Who gives a f**k about the strut brace & oil filter, read about that in the bog-mags - it was about an amazing car in amazing scenery with an amazing soundtrack (which a mag can't give you) His point was enjoy it while we can. Wonderful end to a weak series.

I care. Want an endless piece on a car driving about with no commentary? Get a screen saver. Want a piece of automotive journalism? Watch Top Gear and get clarkson driving.. or so you would have thought.

I've been a defender (offline) for a while as the jokes have been enough for me... but last night was utter gash and seemed a very hastily put together program. They appear to be running out of fresh ideas... wonder where they'll go from here when/if the next series comes out?

As for Hammond: he's turned into a one-trick-pony (actually, his hair makes him look a bit My Little Pony these days) and is the weak link IMHO. I just get irritated whenever he's talking. I've become a big fan of May and would like to see him less marginalised in the studio. IMHO Hammond will be long gone from our TV screens while May continues to produce excellent documentaries, etc. Clarkson and May can stay, Hammond should be released so he can give his full attention to Total Wipeout drivel

No reason why there couldn't have been a proper feature on the car... and then ended with the mood-movie.

Top Gear has evolved from informative motoring commentary to something more aligned to the Tabloids/Lads Mags and in some ways is all the better for it. You can still glean all the info you crave from EVO/Car/Motor Sport in paper/electronic format.

I have to agree with Shug that the Aston Piece was a thought provoking and fitting ending for the last programme in the series. It obviously hit the mark as we are all discussing it and wanting more?
Maybe too subtle for some.........the musical score was by Brian Eno appropriately named "The Ending".................I only know that because I had downloaded a whole load of seventies and eighties stuff for IPHONE listening and Brian Eno and Robert Fripp Albums were included

My Mum could have done a better peice on the V12 Vantage - I'd seriously have liked to know what it was like. Clarkson having fun blatting through the hills making the occassional one word comment - utter gash. Or even really let us hear what it sounds like.....WEAK. Was it the end............?????

VW advert - was just poor comedy, and took up ages....we know clarkson wants to blow things up, may will be bizarre - time for something new. Like many things once they lose sight of what it was that made them great, they can become too mainstream or just plain monotonous.

The frustration of it all, is they have just about the ultimate job!!!!!

Watching him drive it through the hill and valleys (of Wales??) was kak. It was like watching one of Porsches adverts.......nice car, nice scenery, about as inciteful as a turd.

Dire - thankfully they havent quite hit the depth of turd that is fifth gear!!! Drop everyone barr Plato and Nedell, and get them driving properly, instead of chutney-esk top gear challenge rubbish. Those other 3 dandies should be flogged
