Pads rattling?
Re: Pads rattling?
Pagid 14's go through a rattling stage with every set that I have put on. OK at first, rattle for quite a while, then settle down again.
Normal way to check is light pressure on the brake pedal and the rattle will go.

Re: Pads rattling?
The calipers have shim/buffers. Buy them in a set from your Lotus Dealer. Put as many or as little to take up the play of the pad. Just make sure they still move free
Used them on mine and worked a treat.

Paul doesn't have a Lotus Alan. Unless I've missed something.
You can't always move the pads by hand but they may still rattle.
Wouldn't have thought it was the wheel as that would rattle all the time and stop when you braked.

Are the pads held in place by pins?

Re: Pads rattling?
Paul, i recently saw a similar problem where the pad was moving about in the caliper and making a clunking noise, caused by a small high spot on the disk. If the noise goes away with the application of the brakes, i'd suspect the same.
I'd try fitting anti-rattle pads to the contact points between the pad and caliper.

I have also sorted the 'chirp' that was annoying me and was present on all of the Elises I have owned too, a small piece of rubber hose wrapped around the handbrake cable at each side where it passes through the metal 'hanger' which holds it in place -easy fix and all rattles sorted
