I had this on my wrist on Saturday, Finnies have a great IWC "exhibition" on at the moment.

Needless to say I passed on it. But a stunning watch, but confirmed my next purchase.
Dont want to ask again, if its already been covered in the 32 pages already, but any recommendations for a double watch winder? Around £100?

clean, or polish? If polishing is what you want, people talk about the 'cape cod' cloth as being the one to have. As for 'cleaning', anything soft old boy, a silk neckerchief, something for cleaning one's monacle .. you get the picture

IWC were the watches that the Sultan of Oman gave out if you pleased him. I did not wear a watch so I virtually gave my gold one away to a friend in exchange for a spear gun.

I did fancy the yellow, but wanted the orange plongeur hands and I didn't think the contrast on the yellow model was quite right. Not ruled out going for some yellow rubber on this one though!

I was tempted by the yellow one... which is probably another reason not to buy one...

Question for Mr Rolf or anybody else who knows the answer.
I was on Jersey at the weekend and spotted a white gold, black face Daytona with a brown leather strap. Looked fantastic and had a fairly chunky price tag. I am not at all fussed about white gold, in fact I’d rather have stainless. Do you know whether you can order a mix and match i.e. stainless, black faced Daytona with the brown leather strap?
Just for interest I would probably order one in Jersey since their sales tax is 3% rather than 15% going up to 17.5%. Goes without saying that I’d have to wait for the world to sort itself out a bit.
Thanks
Graham

The white gold one has a permalink in the lug and gives it a different look to a stainless on a strap. You can put a stainless daytona on a strap but I'm advised it 'just won't look right' - the thought had crossed my mind.
I know of one, a white gold 2004 model on a black strap going for £7.5k if that's of any interest?

There is always a difficulty!! I assume from what you say that the case is different on the white gold allowing it to take the “permalink”. If it was just a case of getting the permalink presumably you could buy a pair as factory spares and fit them together with a leather strap. I don’t think white gold perma links would look out of place joining a stainless watch to a leather strap.
To be honest I’m not really in the market for another watch. It was just that it had caught my eye at the weekend.
This is a dangerous new interest, I was quite happy with my Seiko for 10 years and now I’m looking at all sorts of heavily branded, over priced “stuff”.
Thanks
Graham

Quick help please form the experts. What does a manual winder feel like when it's nearly fully wound? The manual is no help - it just says "Do not over wind."
Should I be winding it all the way up until it stops winding? I've never felt any increased resistance or hit a limit...
Should I aim to learn how many winds is just enough for 24 hours and stop there, or should I keep it fully wound all the way to the limit (if there is one)?
TIA.

With the manual speedie movement, you should wind very gently between thumb and forefinger. When you have fully wound the spring, you'll feel tension. Stop at that point. It should feel a bit 'rubbery' when you're at the limit. Some say that the manual speedie pro is difficult to wind beyond the limit. I've never been a fan of finding out

If you have never felt any resistance you may have an automatic which has a clutch/gear that prevents you from overwinding. Your manual should clarify. Notice following post mentions a speedy pro, but afraid I don't know if this is made as a pure mechanical or an automatic winder. For a straighforward manual watch, 21 turns is a good indication to fully wind from stopped. Clearly depends on the length of each wind so be carfeul from high teens to try and sense the feel of resistence in these later turns.
