Tut, Greg is correct. It matters not what value _you_ attach to a photograph, if the photograph was taken from another site without the owner's permission then it's wrong.

There are many reasons for the photographer to assert ownership - for example, they may be proud of their work and want others to know it's theirs, or they may wish to control how their picture is used (for example, they may not want it to be used in commercial material), or they may be concerned about the picture being doctored, ....

It's pretty simple really - if you're using somebody's work, ask them for permission and credit them (unless they ask to remain anonymous). If they don't give permission, don't use the photograph. If you don't know (and cannot find out) who owns the picture, at least put the source you copied it from into your work.

BTW, it's a nice idea to pull together a buyer's guide - probably find that there are already very good resources out there too - possibly worth somebody merging them all together one of these days (that's not to say they're all correct!). A quick google found this:

Cheers,
Robin

What do you think that we are doing with your precious photos other than showing them to our other members on here? Selling them to the Sun? If we know where the photos come from then we credit the photographer.

For fcuks sake chill out and take it in the spirit that it is meant.

I appreciate that Robin, but where does it stop and what about the thousands of photos that have been posted on this Forum? The Evora thread began with a photo that Dave acknowledged was "shamelessly borrowed" and I put up a picture of the Eagle that I think came from Hethel's own publication. There have been countless pictures posted of the Scottish Championships that have not been taken by the poster, many from other Forums or sites. Very often they are preceded by taken from SELOC or wherever if known, but they are probably third party or more by then. You have put scanned diagrams up, but even if you had bought the manual or book, is that not against copy write law?

Obviously it is different if someone is claiming it as their own work, but I do not think that happens on here.
