Depends what the total cost is going to be - I asume the £3k quoted was parts and labour?

If you can get it done for £1500 then to be honest that still sounds expensive but thats just me! on a plus side you get a years warranty with the repair :|

Price the independent specialists as everyone else states and see how much they are asking for then weigh up the pro's and cons.

I'd be pushing for better than that given the age/mileage of the car with a FASH and the fact that it's just out of warranty. Not fit for purpose springs to mind.

Did you tell them it wasn't a company car ? ....................

I done that in Edin Audi 5 years ago when they hit me with a £1200 bill.
they offered my 10% off the bill.

What do u guys think is their offer fair?...

i reckon you should give elliot, or one of the other specialists a call and get a pleasant surprise in terms of what the real workd and not the local stealership charge!!

as for warranty/getting it done by audi - most specialisty will garantee their work anyway and when it comes to getting work done, the specialists are held in just as high regard when it comes to re-sale as the stealerships are.

to give you an example, my turbo went in the 2.0TDI i have - Audi wanted 1200 quid for a service exchange turbo (so not even a new one) and an additional stupid amount to fit it,

i went to turbo solutions down south for EXACTLY THE SAME service exchange turbo and they sold me it for 350 quid with a garantee, i then had elliot walker fit it (along with a few other bits and bobs) for around 400 quid :thumbsup

car is still running like new 20k later, no issues since (apart from and unrelated airflow sensor) :D

My work chum has had a problem with the ABS pump on his wife's A3 1.6 which is just out of warranty.

Speccy cars initially wanted £1500 to replace it. I suggested he contact Audi UK to complain and as a result those unmasked robbers have come back to him with an offer of £350 to replace the affected part.

Might be worth a try going to the top non?
Cheers,

Simon
