The obligatory shot with leathers - in this case it's just the jacket, I wasn't going to put the full kit on as I can't take it out on the road yet (just incase anyone thought I was riding in shorts!)

That sounds like you've seen sense and have bought leather trousers too? I hope so, really dont think kevlar jeans are a great idea.

Not got them yet but they are on the list before I start riding properly along with a back protector.

Still might get a pair of Kevlar jeans though eventually but probably only for low speed town

Kevlar jeans are really good,

had a pair of RS ones from J&S in hamilton, they were crap but the draggin jeans i've got a great. Only wear them when doing commuting stuff as wouldn't take them on a mad dash on country roads.

looking into buying a pair of HOOD kevlar jeans later after Tut towers as my draggin jeans have faded due to the amount of soggy wet scottish miles they have done.

believe it or not, but, the wear rate when coming off a bike is pretty much the same with Kevlar jeans as it is with 1.3mm leather!

I remember reading an article in MCN a year or so back, stated that in some cases the Kevlar jeans outperfomed their (cheap) leather counterparts

Personally I'll be sticking to buying the best leathers I can afford.

It's not like you get a second skin... why take any chances?! ... You don't want to find out you've bought the wrong kit when you need it most!.. no question in my mind what I'll be wearing :thumbsup Can't figure out why some folks go out on sports bikes in jeans and trainers or in kit that doesn't zip together etc. Crazy!

Also wouldn't trust an MCN review.... always worth checking who's advert is on the same/facing page when you're reading any of their 'independent' articles.... Same goes for Ride, coincidence that they recommend Forcefield when the tester they use to test the kit for their reviews actually provides consultancy services to Forcefield?!?!

Although I'm actually about to order a Forcefield back protector shortly as it happens..... total coincidence... honest!

Cheers!

Dave.

see i go by the fact that draggin jeans are tested by dragging a bloke behind the bike at 110mph or so and he is fine.

on there website, the guy is dragged behind a car at 60mph, but hey, a wee bit exageration never hurt anyone ;)

The thing about that test is that the kevlar is only in a few places, like your arse, so might not be in all the places you need in an accident. Also, there is no padding or armour, so they do naff all in the initial impact and you'll probably shatter your kneecaps. Plus, there not a tight fit, so more likely to flail, catch and snag, flipping you over and getting pulled up your leg leaving skin exposed.

Fair enough, everyones entitled to do what they like, but i'll be wearing leathers everytime.
