111R Mil Light - relit

Post by colin adams » Wed Jul 19, 2006 2:37 pm

Well it came on, it went out.... and now it is back on and seems to want to stay on. So, phoned Much Maligned MMC and Alastair told me that they are due to get a new program from Lotus in the next 48 hours, he's going to try that on a 111R he has in and if it works they'll give mine a go.

So who is the guinea pig this time thru - Andy??

They'd need to give me an engine that works first - 6 weeks off the road and counting (sorry to keep moaning about it).

Still at least its been a really wet summer with no opportunities to take the car out for a spin

Having had previous experience of MMC's ability to extinguish MIL lights, albeit on a K, may I suggest a very small piece of insulating tape, cut to exactly cover the offending light.

pete

(Someone want to copy that to MMC. It would save a lot of time and effort.)

NOTHING IN THE MESSAGE ABOVE SHOULD BE TAKEN AS ADVICE. I'M NO MECHANIC IF YOUR CAR GOES POP AFTER FOLLOWING THE ABOVE ADVICE YOU ARE A FOOL.

Dont' worry Pete, the rev limiter cuts in and nanny mode comes in. Its only when you've had it in MMC 7 times that th engine goes pop

7 times! That must be a record.

I suppose that there is not much experience of the Toyota engine, being as Toyota are quite a small scale specialist manufacturer and all.

I'm booked in for Friday to get the MIL light 'snipped'. Rumour has it someone else has had it applied and they are still running somewhere. Will give y'all an update after the operation.

Any news on the engine yet Andy??

oops.... Andy, just read the engine thread on the other section. I'd really keep at Lotus on this one, this sounds like a real cop out on their part. I think a mass posting and some legal action needs to be threatened here, this is not on. If they are right then we should all be ditching Yotas for trackdays and that would do nothing for their sales or image.

cheers

Well, car knew it was going to MMC, and the MIL light went out when fired up this morning, strange that..... By lunchtime MMC on the phone to say that I have the wrong type of ECU so no new download. However, engineer from Lotus is in town on Tuesday and they will work out what the solution is then. Bets being taken now as to what the solution will be.

Watch this space.

I wasn't aware there were two ECUs for the Toyota engined cars. I wonder how they managed that! Any road, for sure the light will come on again as nothing has changed.

Cheers,
Robin
