Cabin fan not working

Post by Paul_H » Tue Aug 24, 2010 7:37 am

Hi

I have a 2004 S2 111S (Non A.C.) and the cabin fans have stopped working.

I’d like to investigate some common causes/fixes before taking it down to a garage.

Has anybody experienced this or know of a potential diagnosis?

Cheers

Thanks. The SELOC wiki has some good information on the resistor pack.

As above it'll be the resistor pack, I replaced mine a while ago.
If you replace it with the same one, you can do it with the clam on if you have small hands but if you go for the new design (as I did) it's a clam off job.

just to add.

Search the technical section, there is a 'how to' on changing the resistor pack on a non-A/C car without removing the clam. (be prepared for skinned knuckles)

Also, Lotus does not supply the orginal design resistor pack any more but i think these can be sourced from Elise Parts if you want to go this way.

The upgaded pack is indeed a clam off job but not too taxing.

Thanks for the pointers.

The cabin fans started working yesterday on the drive home from work ?!?!

I'll take a look at the resistor pack and see what condition it's in.

You'll be lucky unless you've got X-ray eyes. it's in a right pig of a position underneath the fan.

you need to de-couple the fan from the heater matrix & rotate it through 180 degrees to get the resistor pack pointing upwards.
Oh, & all this has to be done through the front service panel.

Hi Paul

Sound like a resistor pack. I have some in stock at the moment if your looking to get it done?

Cheers
