Roll up, roll up.

I don't know how many places there are, but it would be a shame if they were to sell out and some of the maybes couldn't end up going ... so if you're serious, book up!

Also, for those thinking of the eurotunnel, at present you can book a short-stay-saver for 40-50 each way, leaving as early as the thursday and returning as late as the monday. For hardcore pikies you can do the overnight special, e.g. out at 05:48 on Friday am, return at 21:20 Saturday pm, 44 quid round trip ;-)

It's 4.5 hours Calais to the ring; on the way out you gain an hour (i.e. you arrive when you left, approximately) so you can be at the ring for say 11:00 on the Friday if you take the 05:48 train - though that does mean either a 23:00 Thursday pm departure from Edinburgh or spending the Thursday driving to the south of England first.

It's 1.5 hours ring to Spa, so it would be possible to stay in Nurburg for Friday night, drive to the track, do the track day, drive back to England or even Scotland. This has the distinct advantage of not requiring one to stay a night in Belgium :-) Breakfast is tricky, but nothing that a couple of snickers from the petrol station cannot cure :-)

Andy, it's obviously the Blitz Krieg as we'll be invading Belgium on day 1, and, err, by day 2 it'll be all over :-)

Cheers,
Robin

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

One-off Track Day Insurance
Richard Egger Insurance - http://www.RichardEggerInsurance.co.uk/
Competition Car Insurance - http://www.competition-car-insurance.co.uk/enquiry.htm
Morris - http://www.morispayment.co.uk/affiliate ... prefix=CIG
CCI insurance is cheaper if the event is a novice trackday, so be sure to mention it.

Not sure CCI cover Spa or the Ring but Henderson Taylor do 0161 4377442 ask For Matt, great guy! I'm doing my renewal them at the end of the month, nobody could touch their prices for me.... :thumbsup

I still have the TT....Want to make me an offer

Anne is giving me a roasting, where are you going to park it, you can only drive one car at a time etc etc. Never mind, I will see what to do with the TT,its a great car, but its just a car, no more.

Anyway, Will go with the flow with what the rest of you want to do, never had a european track out yet, so looking forward to it. Will need to get out a few times to see if I can remember how to drive, it is a strange thing. its been 3 years now since I last drove on a track with my head in gear. :thumbsup

Robin, I will give you a call in the morning.

Will wait and see what the outcome is with my gearbox before commiting but likely I will do at least the Saturday. Probably get the ferry from Newcastle rather than travel all the way down for the tunnel. Hate driven in the UK.

LOL. Seconded. The Blitz Kreig (tm) it is, then. My only other thought was "The Belgian Dip" but I'm a bit too much of a prude.

Anyways...woah there boys...this was a simple excursion, I'm not sure that turning it into Hitler's Tour of Europe was on my agenda. Frankly I'm lucky to be making Spa at all, so for now, I'm looking at a straightforward sortie from Blighty on Friday, some socialising in the evening, an educational run around the world's finest F1 track on Saturday, then expert piloting homeward sometime thereafter!

I've been to the Ring before, I did love it but that was in the days when insurance was easy to come by. And before the nature of the place changed to what it seems to be now. Therefore, interested as I would be to revisit it in a leisurely way, I'm not up for a wild goose chase which may end in disappointment (as Robin says), or indeed, disaster.

On top of all that, as a far less experienced track driver than the rest of youse, I'll need all my reserves to make the most of Spa. And I think one day of it is plenty, for me and also my ageing car. It's essentially going to be my 40th birthday present to myself so I want to enjoy it, not feel like I'm on a military expedition ;-)

2p, for now at least...

PS - Robin - after your kind offer to car share to make this possible for me, if you feel compromised by my killjoy attitude, I am sure you will say so, and we'll be able to negotiate a suitable settlement to enable you to chase these young whippersnappers half way around northern Europe for a few days!!!

I am with you Campbell, would love to do Spa, but my lack driving in the last 3 years makes me think that I would be better to walk before I run, and as the ring is perhaps a tad more than a run, I would pass. Will be more than happy to visit, and pax round, but I fear lack of time in seat would end up in disaster.

As I said , I will go with the flow.

your looking at this the wrong way campbell. Your going 700 miles to Spa, it makes sense to squeeze in as much as you can whilst your there. I agree the ring can be a pain due to insurance, but an extra day at spa is worthwhile, as is a day driving in the ardennes. Think outside the box. Go big or go home. Throw some sh*t at the wall and see what sticks. Plus some other buzzwords that you corporate types use ;)

All very sensible.

But I live my life at a different pace just now, 700 miles to Spa is certainly a big commitment but so are the bills from 2 days hooning round its 4 miles or so plus a few laps of the Green Hell.

Less about "think outside the box" and more "let's run with that idea"...until I watched the GP this weekend I had no notion of going anywhere near Spa or any other track this year, such is the state of the car and the family finances. And look at me now, Jedi von Iddon has hooked me again (like he did last year with impromptu sesh at Donnie!) and I'm a mere puppet on the train of destiny now!

So, Robin has given you all the "heads up", we've "bounced the idea around", and I've explained the "meta-priority" I'm giving to the "critical success factors" of the trip from my own POV. You are clearly trying to "upscale" things, which is your prerogative.

Sorry, as you can see, I'm not actually that hot on corp BS ;-)

Will watch the debate unfold with interest though.
