Any Clio 182 owners/ex-owners? [NLC]
Re: Any Clio 182 owners/ex-owners? [NLC]
Buying Used Feature on the 182 in EVO this month. Quite compelling...

I kept breaking mine. Not the best built but cheap parts.

Not always - my pal has just been quoted £800 for a standard exhaust system from Renault.Gourlay83 wrote: I kept breaking mine. Not the best built but cheap parts.

If you are going for it, I can recommend a decent Renault Indy garage in Edinburgh.
The Renault dealership at Sighthill haven't been particularly helpful in the past for me. The Megane was in for a brake hose recall so I asked if they wouldn't mind plugging in the diagnostic computer while they had it to see if they could detect a fault code for a light that kept coming on (I suspected a coil pack or injector, and wanted to make sure before I ordered anything from their parts dept). They wanted £90 just to plug it in
So instead I took it to Rentec at Portobello (Telferton Industrial Estate). Small 2 man outfit but well run. They used to run the Renault workshop at the main dealer in Seafield I believe. I provided my own oil/filter/plugs. Asked them to change those & also check for the fault code with a view to giving a price to rectify the issue. Also asked them to check the health of the CV joints/driveshaft & advise on cost to replace.
They did the mini service & found water in a coil pack, so dried it & greased it up... stuck it on the computer to see if any codes came up after that.... no issue since... £47 inc Vat
They also gave me a price for the driveshaft, but actually suggested to me that it wasn't too badly worn... so just go drive it... which was nice.
I've also had the NSF hub & bearing changed by Rentec which came in a couple of hundred £ less than the main dealer. Would definitely use again.
Andy.

Thanks Andy, that's really useful to know, wouldn't fancy using a main dealer if I can avoid it
Currently considering a low mileage 182 Cup (the one with the cheap seats) or holding out for a 182 with the better interior and the Cup packs...

I *think* EVO recommend the latter too, in their article. And hint that whilst the 182 Trophy is a "keeper", it carries a premium as such so is not for everyone.Digital wrote:Thanks Andy, that's really useful to know, wouldn't fancy using a main dealer if I can avoid it

Re: Any Clio 182 owners/ex-owners? [NLC]
I bought a new 172 in 2002. Great fun to drive, but the build/reliability was pretty poor.
I had issues with it cutting out when idling and also the baffles in the centre exhaust section went at 9k miles. There were also general build issues with squeaky dash board, etc.
In the end I got fed up and flogged it.
A friends dad currently has one and I think the gearbox has just gone on it, not sure if that's a common problem.
Chris
PS. Another thing that drove me mad was the fact it would sometimes say -0 on the external temp display. God knows why that irritated me so much.

I always assumed the -0 was because it was -0.01 or so, and it was being rounded up.... maybe I gave it too much thought, but noticed it too!TophaTron wrote: PS. Your tail of woe is remarkably similar to my experience!
