FAQ for technical issues?
Hi All,
Does the forum have a FAQ, or some sort of Wiki, where all the gems of knowledge are stored?
I just fitted new pads (CL5s) to the front, and noticed a rattle on the way home yesterday that goes away when I touch the brakes. Quick search and I found out that the pads are a bit loose, and I should have put in some self adhesive shims. Now ordered up, but if there had been a FAQ of some sorts, I'd probably have read it beforehand, and I would have fitted the shims at the same time as the pads. Now I need to take it all to bits again to fit them (OK, not a major job, but it might have been something else).
There are many knowledgeable folks on here that have loads of hints and tips, so it would be handy to have access to that sort of stuff without searching through posts or people asking the same questions.
Colin

Re: FAQ for technical issues?
It's a good question, Colin, but whilst I think an early wiki experiment was indeed tried out, the idea never caught on.
Forum searching in Technical can throw up some valuable results, and the Seloc TechWiki is definitely a valuable starting point.
"Our own" Fergus Duncan and a couple of others put together the Elise FAQ, though, and whilst it has had some downtime (I think it's all down to Fd's and Simon Ironside's personal efforts to host etc), this is also a great resource and does use a Wiki format so can be contributed to I believe. Perhaps this is a very good starting point, actually... Contribution details here.
Knowledge Management is a big part of my role at work these days and I'd love to bring some of the principles to SE but just don't have the time

That elise FAQ looks like a useful site; a new one on me!

As an S1 Carer (!) you are probably going to need it

Indeed - there have already been a few things to attend to,... and on an on-going basis too.... see my 'wanted ad'campbell wrote:As an S1 Carer (!) you are probably going to need it
Re: FAQ for technical issues?
Interesting.
Well in the spirit of tech knowledge, I'd recommend a neat improvement that Robin suggested and then team-led for my S1 about two years ago...
...the std S1 exhaust manifold is an awkward design, and the S2 version (K-series, obviously) is an improvement. I think bolt access is one benefit, perhaps also the type of heatshield (I now have a Nimbus one but can't recall if that is a std one or was fashioned by Iddon Enterprises at the time!).
You then also require to use the S2 downpipe as well, but it presents to the Cat in the same style and location as the original S1 lashup so from there back to your tailbox is unaffected.
I bought a stainless downpipe for sensible money, and whilst the rear flange is slightly thicker and hence pushes the tailpipes a few mm to the left once fully fitted, it's still worth doing. Some tailboxes have enough adjustment on the tailpipes and tips that this can be compensated for. My ageing BlueFlame stainless example does not, unfortunately, but it fits...just !
Hope that's enough info to be going on with.

Sorry for the thread hi-jack
Annoyingly I have recently replaced the flexipipe section. Subsequently, the manifold has developed a crack, where it joins the down pipe. Looks like the plan will be to weld up the crack for just now. If I had not replaced the flexipipe so recently, I would be going down the route you have suggested.
Prices of new manifolds are a bit
... a pal has an old rover 214; he has sent me some pics of his manifold; at a glance, it looks the same; does anyone know if it is the same, and any cheaper??
