You are an amateur compared to Lee Chambers.

He was at Leuchars on Friday, and is now on his 7th Elise variant.

Gareth

You have a reputation for changing cars, or indeed, if not actually changing, contemplating the same.

However you have not reached, or are unlikely to, the figure of seven.

A BIT????

My dear old Mom used to work for S&S many years ago (when they were still out in Mossblown) and the tamer, older Impreza Turbos got stupid fuel economy - even when pottered about it. Fark knows what the latest whizzbang STi's with 100 more BHP get?

8, maybe 9 mpg?

The S3 tends to get mid-20s (without hanging about) but has a highly amusing 'live' mpg readout in the trip computer. Elaine & I have an ongoing war to see how low we can get it (she's currently winning on 4.7mpg)
Mid 20s* in the impreza too. They must have improved since those early ones...

I resent the Halfords thing though, you're all snobs
Look it has 5 seats and Isofix for fcuk sake! What more do you want. Adn a boot. And a towbar. And that S3 i really a glorified Golf GTi. German badge engineering. And as for styling by Halfords have you seen M3s, Huggy Bear, if British, would drive a convertible M3.

At least it isn't covered in dirty great stickers

(Just tried to buy some gold wheels  but discovered they won't fit. Suzy would have HAD a fit.) Deep down inside I am only 19, I see Evos, all be-spoilered and be-stickered and think "that looks great" then realise it is being driven by a child who has spent as much on stickers as I have on fuel and have to go for a lie down.

*I've discovered an important modification to my behaviour that helps the fuel economy.
1. Don't measure it.
2. Try and alternate vehicles a lot so I wife is taking her turn to fill it up.
3. Don't think about it.
4. Tell myself it is getting mid twenties if I do think about it.

Motorways you can get errm high twenties. In the first week of ownership Suzy was drag racing it down the perimeter track at the airport and I was still measureing it. 16 on average. Which isn't that bad. You know all thing considered.

Indeed, except his name is Lee Collins
Everyone is confused by his email address but he explained recently to me that leecollins... was taken so he used lee36chambers and took the "36chambers" part from the name of an album by the Wu Tang Clan.
You learn something new every day :D
:D Yes that was in 2000 when I first got online and joined SE1, it was a CD I was listening to at the time. Funny thing is no-one ever noticed the 'wu-tang connection' until a couple of months ago when my Exige arrived at MMC and Graeme phoned for my email address to send some pics, when I said lee36chambers@ he said "oh wu-tang 36 chambers f#ckin great album".

Persuade her to get a new BMW M5.

You would enjoy 501hp.

The thought of my Maw driving something that quick is scary.
She's already managed to spin the Porker (no damage) coming off a round about...
