New Brakes For a S2 Elise

Hey,

Basically it appears as though I need to buy 4 new discs and pads as my brakes are pretty much gone. Its a 02 S2 Elise.

Where is the best/cheapest place to buy them from and is there any makes of pads or discs I should avoid?

I have seen this deal (http://www.kelsport.net/parts/product_d ... ectionID=2) which would suit me perfectly. Would this be suitable?

Usual advice for regular road use is EBC plain or grooved discs (but don't need to be drilled) , and maybe Mintex pads.

If tracking a lot then you'd probably want to consider better pads. The greenstuff in that link aren't normally recommended.

Those discs are fine, ran them for years on mine. Greenstuffs aren't the best, but if you're getting them cheap, they aren't that bad. Lots of folk roll their eyes at the mention of them, but for road use they are fine - not too dusty either.

Slightly more expensive would be Mintex M1144 (I think) - better stopping power and feel, but quite dusty.

Other pad options include the Carbon Lorraine CL5+ or Pagid RS4-2, but they are significantly more expensive if you're not going to be caning it on track.

yeah sorry, I should've said. It's not for track use and will purely be for road use.

EBC disks fine, all I've ever used.

Mintex 1144 pads are tangible improvement on std in terms of fade-resistance. Also good VFM. Things get progressively better with Pagid RS4-2 the Carbone Lorraine RC5+ (latter is by recommendation only...I've used the Pagids and only went back to Mintex for economy reasons...saving back up for Pagids and ultimately CL 5+ one day!).

Main thing to watch is DON'T go for an extreme pad as they are rubbish when cold (or even quite warm in fact - the race-oriented ones need to be roasting to work well and will destroy the feel & performance of the brakes under "normal" driving).

I notice Elise Parts don't do the exact discs that I mentioned in my previous post.

Are these discs generally accepted as being ok for pure road use when combined with the Mintex pads?

Can't comment on those discs specifically...you may be able to get EBC ones direct elsewhere...or even just plain ones, then ask if our own Stu160 might cut you some grooves in them at his engineering works if need be

But Mintex 1144 pads are not highly aggressive so should work fine with std or near-std discs. You may get a little bit of pad squeal from Mintex, btw, but some coppalip behind the pads at fitting time, or some "anti-rattle buffers" can help. So does a good roasting.

I always used JRT automotive, great service every time. EBC's and Mintex 1144's were what I had for everyday use and the very occasional trackday.

I have these disks and pads on the front of my car and find they are perfectly good for road use.

Went for EBC ultimax discs all round and carbon Lorraines rc5's all round and I am still astonished! Amazing on track and road!!
