geo / tracking
geo / tracking
i got my new car couple weeks ago.
focus sport
if i hold the steering wheel centre, it drifts to the right.
had it in for tracking at the ford garage this morning - but they said it came out spot on.
weird.
thinking maybe its the old stuff they used to measure it.
or that something else could be off.
any ideas? should i spend dosh on going to a proper geo place. its a new car tho :-S

Re: geo / tracking
Does it brake in a straight line?
I mean, if it's dangerous, I'd be taking it back..
Other than that, could Ford have simply fitted the steering wheel a bit squint?

Get someone to follow you and observe will be obvious if it's crabbing.

If it's a brand new car it goes back until it's correct.
Be ready to write to Ford UK promptly, don't put up with dealer runarounds.
Research the rules on rejecting etc so that you don't put a foot wrong.
Chances are it's trivial but I'm already not sure of the dealer if they have claimed "nothing wrong sir" but you are still convinced there is

Re: geo / tracking
ill try the braking at lunch.
tyre pressures are equal.
not checked for brake dragging - would be hotter, so ill check for that at lunch (before the braking!)
new tyres, but ill check the depths.
i think they checked all 4 wheels - was something they hung on each wheel, didnt seem a very good system to me. said the rears were the same (7.5?) and the fronts spots on.
but was only like crosses they put on the wheels (was rapid fit).
ill ask someone to follow me, see what its like.
had to go through the rejecting a car route with a new ford before - but got it all sorted in the end.
will follow the same, but am sure its easy to sort - and if its £45 or so, ill do it myself
the Rapid Fit guy that tested it said nothing wrong, but to go back if there is. will see about that.
He said that if he starts making the wheel straight, it might start adjusting the toes - so i dont think hes pulling the wool over my eyes, just hasnt the equipment i think.
Pro-grip seem to be a well kitted company?
Who else should I consider, who else do folks on here use - i am sure ive seen printouts before.

It is almost certainly worth the investment to come down to Willie at CLCM near Murray, Sighthill, Edinburgh.
But fact remains with a new car the dealer should be putting things right. Pronto. End of

Re: geo / tracking
CLCM definitely know what they are doing, worth the wee trip and you can just ask ford to reimburse if there's anything. £40-£50 unless theres a lot needing done ( in which case you'd be looking for them to deal with it)

Target tyres in Perth have a decent set up, I had the old scooby done there.

update from lunch:
braking - doesnt seem to move under braking. needs more testing.
does pull to the right more under slight acceleration

Re: geo / tracking
The garage across Dock Street from Matalan have a four wheel laser set up. Had the Elise in there for a geo, I'd use them again. Cheap for a check, think it was £90 for an adjustment too.
