Supercharger Pulley Installation

Post by Rosssco » Tue Oct 18, 2011 11:00 am

Folks,

I'm looking to install a pulley onto an M62 supercharger (same as Exige/Elise S?) but not sure I fancy giving it a go myself in case I mangle it... Anyone with any tips or even somewhere Aberdeenish who has done this?

Options are heating the pulley with a combination of using the M8 thread in the snout to pull the thing on.. Considered 'hammer time', but not sure this is the correct approach in this instance..

Cheers,

I replaced mine on my Jackson, 4"- 3.2" there's a nut on the face and there was a bolt pattern on the back to get a spanner on, simples..

The smaller one however had no blot pattern on the back and took a little persuasion :p all lines up fine though, biggest Issue I had was getting a belt the right size, then getting the fooker on there..

Cheers mate. Car back together then? I think you mean you SC was one of the modular pulley types which have a press on 'hub' that goes onto the shaft, then the pulley bolts to the hub.. Mine in a straight press on / interference fit pulley.

Gave it a go tonight. In the oven till 200c  Out and onto the shaft. A few good taps with the mallet and it was half there (should have percievered with that method in hindsight) then an M8 bolt and nut in the snout got it almost the rest of the way then became a bit of a slog with little progress. So basically, I've given up with the pulley 4/5ths on...

So I'll need to find somewhere to finish the job, although not a garage which will deploy the demented trianee with the big hammer...

Check the thread on the bolt is not too long, ie maybe the mount of the pulley is thinner?

Not sure what you mean? The bolt I used was fully into the snout...

I just wondered if it was bottoming out but if it was fully into the shaft wit no pulley you will be fine. I've only changed a couple pulleys and both seemed straightforward, I gues 95% home before using the bolt. I've an m62 in the kitchen, I'll have a look in the morning.

Managed to get it on.. :D Perched the pulley over the gas hob of the cooker, and heated the rest of the pulley with a blow torch (not my most eloquent of plans, but worked  ) and got alot of heat into it. Then once suitably baked, some good hard work with a big ratchet, and made it home..

Cheers folks,
