Methinks your memory is a tad rose-tinted ;)
Are you deliberately trying to sound patronising this morning, Shug?

F1 is about more than one driver - I do not condone Senna's attitude, and it's a tired argument to just trot out Senna as the justification for how it has become. Give us some examples of Mansell and Piquet driving in a similar manner to Senna please, ie. happily driving people off track.
Okay calm down mate - having a light hearted discussion here!

I'll just back away from the thread now - no time or need to get into arguments on the internet about sport...

Shug, I'm not looking for an argument, just commenting I felt patronised with the last sentence.

Don't go! I'd really like to know of examples of Mansell/Piquet/other pre-Senna era drivers doing this, ie. running people off track at corner exits, which is my very specific beef.

Cheers,

I understand its intention is to formally legislate against the grey area Schumacher exploited at Monza this year, moving offline on the straight ("one move") to force a driver to the outside for the next corner... but then making that gap on the outside disappear as he arrived at the braking zone. Until now this was arguably permissible ("right to take the racing line"). But I agree, if that's the formal wording it's (conveniently?) ambiguous.
I think it should be interpreted as not taking back the racing line before the turn in point.
For example (Schumacher) could defend to the inside but in the braking zone must leave a cars width on the outside. After turn in then anything goes, the inside car would have the racing line at the apex...

Any references to laptimes, speed or driving on the public highway are purely for dramatic effect.

Lifting the mood a little, I think the in-season test opportunity will help a little for new talent.

And the unlapping under Safety Car will help shake things out with less lottery of "who are the fast boys going to drive over the top of in the melee".

I don't believe they have addressed the qually "Top 10 err sorry 4 or 5 Shootout" abuses though.

Oh, and Joe Saward take on the rule changes in case anyone wants to see it...not a lot of opinion in it though (for once)...but comments can be entertaining...
