If it was my money I'd be going for that. For the age of car, the mileage is not what you'd really call "high". High mileage is not an issue if it has history. In fact in some ways it can show that a lot of stuff has been sorted on the car. I would probably be more concerned about an S1 with very low miles; these cars need to be driven. I would think a low mileage car that suddenly starts getting used a lot more will just have a series of parts failures. IMHO.

The 111s (my first elise was a 111s S1) is a good bit quicker than a standard car. From memory it was not noticeably slower than 160s on the road.

If Ross's car had been for sale when I was buying (and the Sport135 I bought, was not for sale at the time  ) I would have jumped at it without question. :thumbsup

If Richard/Wacky was unlucky enough not to have got your car...

The best resource I found when buying was the SE poeple. Some kind members spared some time to talk about the car, discussing ownership and beeing able to nose about a car while asking questions really gives you a lot of useful information and a reference to start from.

I have thought about a caterham, the chassis corrosion tales worry me slightly but really my biggest issue is getting the right car. I was looking into 1.4 supersports but was advised to get a 1.6 at least?

I had a westfield race car a few years ago with a SBD 260bhp vx engine which was awesome on track but almost undrivable on the road!

Anyone know of any for sale?

Just realised what I wrote here, it's a caterham that I could possibly be looking for.

The 1.4 SS Caterham served a great purpose in hillclimbs/sprints as it fitted into a lower class but I'm not up on current regs.

Don't worry about chassis corrosion too much as the majority of it is visible from underneath and if you take off the bonnet & nosecone.

The worst year is meant to be '97 but my 1st Cat was made in Feb of this year and was ok :thumbsup

Meant also to say - initial purchase cost of a Caterham will be a fair bit higher than an S1 Elise :?

Thanks for the info.

Tbh the current pricing on s1 eludes and caterhams seem to be all over the place, lots of tat and dreamers out there. I guess the whole used market is always like this, what's that saying about there always being somewhere......
