4K for a '99 S1 111s Elise! *updated*

Post by SteveBanks » Fri Sep 08, 2006 7:19 pm

Quick update...the car is at Overton in Aberdeen, I am sending a cheque tonight to the insurance company in Glasgow who will arrange for the car to be delivered to my house upon receiving the cheque.

Hopefully they will sort this out quite quickly and I will reply to all who PM'd me with my address details once the car arrives.

Cheers,
Steve.

Been offered the chance to buy my 111s back from the insurance company for 4k, should I do it?

Spec is:
99 111s
Azure Blue
40k miles
180bhp/140lbft (minister tuned) Dastek printout
4-2-1 manifold
RS 14's
S2 Suspension
V111 VVC reg

Will be cat D but purely cosmetic...was a car park incident, bodywork only. Front clam damage is almost hidden by number plate and can be repaired, rear clam needs replaced and that is ALL the damage! It still drives perfectly and could be run now and fixed over winter.

Can't be arsed sorting it and don't want to (can't afford to) keep it, but do you reckon it would sell easily? Buy as seen, even 5k on ebay would net a 1k profit for little effort. What do you reckon it would be worth?

If anyone is interested in buying it, or knows someone that's looking for a cheap car then let me know. If I had a buyer lined up then I'd definitely buy it from the insurance company but I don't want to be stuck with it as I will be needing the cash I'd use in the near future.

Opinions please...

Cheers,
Steve.

For anyone expressing an interest in my 111s, I'll get some before pictures posted soon and find out where the insurance company are storing it and also if it would be possible for people to view the damage first hand.

Remember that this was a parking incident and is ONLY cosmetic, a fcuk farce that it was written off and it could be a cheap way for someone to get into Elise ownership. There is nothing stopping anyone from driving it as it is, there are no bits of fibregleass missing or hanging off, the damage is just simply cracks.

You mean like Tut's?

Naaah, his also drops some other important bits. ;)

But seriously, it would be a great buy for someone racing teh LOT races. I would be inclined it it wasn't because I'm skint at the moment. :(

Its just a paint blemish compared to Tut's!

In fact, Tut would probably think...what damage?

Back on topic and yes, if you had the space and time, you could have it back in one reasonable piece for £2k perhaps. Then it will be worth what another £3-4k on top if you can get the cat D cleared off the insurance. Maybe an inspection by Lotus? Got to be worth it.

You cant get the Cat D removed, you can have a car inspected but it would still show up on an Hpi.

However, at 4k for the car, 2k to fix, even the fact its a cat D it would still be worth 9k ish.

I think it would only be worth 7-8k as a cat D fully repaired. 9k is getting pretty close to good condition non-smashed cars and regardless of how little damage there was, people don't particularly want cat D cars. When someone does buy one, they expect it to be a good bit cheaper than an equivalent clean car.

If it was me, I'd still buy it back at £4k though and try to get some cheap clams for it or repair what's there. I just wouldn't spend £2k doing it up to look new again and expect to flog it on for more than double.

I still think the car should go to a newbie looking to get onto the lotus ladder at a budget cost not looking to make a quick buck!
