Stop Gap Lotus

Post by douglasgdmw » Fri Oct 19, 2012 1:02 pm

We were having a think about purchasing a "Stop gap" Lotus in case there are any further delays in the Lotus Exige V6 arriving.

We have a "proposed" March delivery for the V6 but assuming that this slips due to Lotus's situation what Lotus purchase would make most sense.

For a man like yourself that's done the S1 thing, I think an SC needs to be done at some stage.

Shug,

I do agree but wondering what the "potential loss" would be if we did an SC purchase in Autum/Winter and sell in early/late Summer?

Having a quick look I was wondering whether an S1 would be the best option as it has already suffered the depreciation. Just picked this out of Pistonheads http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/clas ... 999/831787 as thinking criteria would have to be Private sale (no dealer commission) and low mileage (so it sells quickly).

Looks peachy. Strong, but not fantasy, money. Daresay you wouldn't lose much, if anything, selling next spring - especially if a deal could be done on that price. The worry being that it's a 13 year old car but hopefully luck would be on your side and it wouldn't do something expensive over the winter.

Scotty,

The official line I have is that it's still going to be for March but due to the lack of information that is coming out of Lotus I honestly don't know if it will be March 2013 or 2014 or ever.

We were just thinking of getting something in case there are any delays so we don't waste any good weather without a vehicle . Obviously this time of the year is good to buy.

Already looked at the MMC Orange SC but discounted due to colour.

Difficult situation to be in as we discussed briefly last Sunday.

3 Options:
1.Do nothing - cost you nothing
2.Buy a stop gap S1- depreciation should be low but there may be maint./repair costs :?
3.Give up on V6 and get back into another Evora or an SC elise or whayever else you fancy (seem to recall Aston was mentioned?). - if the V6 appears at any point you can put it on the list to buy next/later and enjoy what you have in the meantime.

I guess it depends on your faith in the V6 appearing and if it does - when.

Lotus are still showing at the Zurich motorshow in November and the press release shows Elise/Evora and Exige V6 so they must still have a degree of confidence that it will happen. I also read that March 2013 is when cars can be expected. If that is the case it really isn't that long to wait.....

Think I would be inclined to hang in there and wait - However I am glad I dont have to make the decision. :blackeye

Think that they can be a little bit difficult to sell as most people go for a standard S1, 111S or 135

I want to make it through the winter with some feeling in my legs so that I can still feel the pedals when the V6 Exige eventually arrives.

Vx220 / turbo.

Cheap to buy, quick enough, more reliable than the S1 would be.

In reality though, it's late October, and you're talking about March, how much Lotus are you likely to need in the Winter..?

Depends on budget but an S1 Exige has to be safe money for a 6 month play.

I guess finding one is the tough bit.

We will not use much Lotus much in the winter but the Lotus market is on the downturn from this point in time onwards is an ideal time to buy.

Really just thinking of buying on the speculation that the V6 will be delayed further (e.g. Summer) & we have something fun to keep up going till it arrives and we can shift quickly with minimal/no loss.

We really want the V6 in March but Lotus are being very quite with owners who have put their order in and there is whole load of other speculation when the car will eventually surface due to various delays (which may or may not be true).

Found one which looks great but bound to be a big dealer margin in there which means I would make a loss however Sandra does like it
