Edinburgh socialite advice

Post by alicrozier » Wed Feb 13, 2013 9:14 pm

Need a bit of advice o Edinburger social butterflys.

Looking for suitable venues for a leaving do.
Dinner then onwards for drinks and dancin'.

It's for Drilling Company senior management so fairly high end, cost not really an issue. Will be a range of ages, all over 30 though so not a nightclub full of kids... Ideally central location. I think it needs to be fairly pc also so no titty bars Benny.

I think the plan is down from Aberdeen on the train then onwards the next day to Amsterdam.

Cheers,
Ali

And clearly you don't want to bump into Benny either :-)

No particular help on any of this as no social butterfly, but I quite like Jules Holland's place down the end of Queen Street - grown ups, dancing is possible, as is eating and drinking.

On the other hand if you want proper eating and drinking first then book in at the Malt Whisky Society, handily just a few doors up the road on Queen Street. The food is excellent and you don't have to drink whisky if you don't want to. They've looked after our xmas meals for a few years now and nobody has ever had a bad word to say. We've dealt with Eliza in the past, though she might not be there all year around - not sure.

There are some exceptional restaurants with big hitting chef but for this I would recommend Hotel du Vin. Good not exceptional food. Strong wine menu. Wallet damaging whisky snug. Heated cigar doo cot outside. Goods opulent boys night to be had in one location. They have a private dining room that takes 25 iirc.

I'm off to Hotel Missoni on Saturday with dinner at the Livingroom. I think George St has lots of nice places like Tigerlilly etc
Blue S2 (sold to the plumber)
Seat Leon Cupra Commuter Car
Black Chrysler Grand Voyager Family Bus (Fully loaded spec!)

I go to dakota a lot with work and I can't say it's ever impressed me as a high end dining place. Certainly not as high end as they think it is. Passable for a work lunch but i'd avoid if you're wanting to impress.

Oh and crazy dave hasn't had anything to do with the place for a few years as he fell out with his mate Ken.
Focus ST estate, i3s and more pushbikes than strictly necessary.

....did i ever tell you about the Evora and VX220 i used to own?

No mention of Nandos. Fountain park has ample parking.

Dakota's private dining room was nice a couple of years ago when we have about 25-20 out for a meal. Alternatively try either The Boat House or Orroco Pier at S Queensferry - both nice fish Restaurants. For fine dining, try Tom Kitchens place at Leith, Greywalls at Gullane, or Andrew Fairley at Gleneagles. It all dependson what your group want.

He's a Vet dom - we went there last Frolic :D

Depends how formal you want to the dinner Ali.

I'd be tempted to suggest The Honours - you'll need a booking asap - awesome food & location (Just off George Street - Martins Wisharts more normal restaurant so not insanely expensive). Def a good exec dining stop, and then you have the choice of bars from there?

Depends whether you want bars you can chat in etc - but Tigerlilly is normally a safebet & caters for all, club downstairs if anyone fancies it?
