Post by TAMBO » Sat Mar 30, 2013 8:17 pm

Had my car looked at yesterday and it has a slight leak at the manifold. Ali suggested I get a Janspeed manifold upgrade.

any recommendations of the best place to buy this?

Or get an S2 manifold and mid section.

Although I believe there's not much in it price wise.

Where is broken? dont know if wrapping it might provide a temporary fix till you find a new manifold
If so Ive got a roll of manifold wrap in the garage and Im home from Forfar tomorow. Sure Ive got a spare exhaust gasket and some bolts too but will probably need a new manifold gasket if we are taking it off.

No worries mate. Get it ordered, Elise parts are really quick (usually next day). Ill speak to the boys and see if we can do it in the unit next weekend :thumbsup
Remember order gaskets, new bolts and get all the bolts wd40'd in advance, they can be a pig once they are all cooked

I will have a 135 sport manifold and downpipe lying on my garage floor by tonight, I hope. It will be surplus to my requirements as I am fitting a Honda. let me know if you are interested.

Is the 135 manifold any different to the standard S1?

I don't believe so. But have been known to be wrong before...

I just had a look at it, and it does not appear to be different to the standard S1 system. Looks to be in good condition though.

thanks Sandy for the kind offer, im going to get a good look at it and see what the story is , I have only been told by ali that its "blowing a bit", I thought rater than mess a bout it would be worthwhile maybe upgrading the manifold.

from what i read it does have good benefits.

this is what i was thinking of.

they come up on ebay/seloc for a fraction of new cost every once in a while

be aware, whilst aftermarket exhausts do give a torque lift with their longer primaries over an OEM manifold, none of the aftermarket exhausts are doing much more than connecting A to B in stainless.

they are not tuned systems

And therefore they will not do anything near to get the best out of an engine. Tuning an exhaust means a huge amount of work that is dependant on induction, airbox/plenum valve size, throat ratio, cam profile , cam timing etc etc etc

IE it is impossible to produce an aftermarket exhaust to suit everyone wanting one who has specced his own engine - just not possible, and the amount that is lost gained is enormous!

BTW the Janspeed as most aftermarket systems are particularly let down by very poor collector design, which has a significant effect on what you feel behind the wheel

unless you have money to burn, or are just sold on the idea of stainless steel as a material, a decent S2 manifiold is a very sensible choice, for next to no money.

I'm sure Junks can sort you out.

Pleasure!

I had two good OEM's here, but gave both away recently, otherwise you'd have been welcome to one of those,,
